Patented May 31, 1932-" UNITED STATES DANIEL KEES, or BEATRICE, NEBRASKA, Assren'oa TQ n. Kn ts MANurAc'runme co; 7 mo, or :snarnronnnnnnszga V noon G rm Application filed July 7, 1930. Serial 1Y0. 466,315.;
The present invention relates to a guard especially designed for use on doors of various types, windows or the like, and aims to provide novel means which may be readlly and easily secured in position by persons unfamiliar with mechanics so that a person may grip or push against the guard on opening or closing the door, thereby protecting the wire mesh or material of the door.
An'important object of the invention 1s to provide a guard of this character embodying telescoping sections, whereby the guard may be adjusted to various lengths to adapt 1t for use in connection with door or window frames.
of various widths. V g
A still further object of the invention 1 the provision of a guard which may be stamped from sheet metal, the sheet-metal being so constructed that it will be exceptionally rigid and will not bendunder ordinary.
service. 7
With the foregoing and other ob eots in view which will appearas the description Figure 1 is an elevational view'showing a guard bar constructed in accordance with the invention as positionedon a door. j
. Figure 2 is a plan view of the bar.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the sections thereof.
Figure 4 is a plan View of a bar including two sections.
Figure 5 is a sectional viewillustrating elliptical tubular sections presenting a wide gripping surface.
Figure 6 is a sectional iew scoping tubular sections.
Figure 7 is a sectional viewthrough a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the guard bar includes a central section. 5'and adjustable sections 6 that are positioned in the substantially -wide,
are substantially circular in cross section.
through telefends of the 'sectionvo, clearly 'show-n' by I Figure flof the drawings. H Thessection 5 is formed of sheet metal material and is con structed to define a longitudinal rib 8 which is formed with inturned edges 10.
The end sections 6, are also constructed of sheet metal material and are stampedinf such a way as to provide a central longitudinalo'fiset portion 11 and lateralflanges 12 '60 arranged in parallel spaced relation with each other. .a j
At the outer ends of these sections 6 are feet 13 which are substantially flat and 7 formed with apertures to receiveysecurin'g t5- screws whereby the bar may be secured to a door or window, as shown'by Figure 1. In
order that the bar will be slightly spaced f from thewire mesh material of which the 7 door is formed, the ends of the sections 6 are curved inwardly asat 14. v As shown by Figure 3 ofthe drawings, the
end sections'6 are slid into the central section 5, the edges of the flanges 12 engaging within the spaces formed. between the flanges I and inturned ends 10,-the oil'set portions k 11 accommodating the rib 8 of the central section 5 with the result that the end sections 1 will be held securely in position but per- -mitted to slide or telescope sothat the bar 380" may be adjusted for use. V
In the form ofthe invention as shown by Figure 40f the drawings, tubular sections 1 15 and 16 are provided, which sections are" substantially elliptical in cross section, as" shown by Figure 5 of the drawings, presenting a substantially w'idegripping surface.
As shown by Figure6, the tubular sections which are indicated at 17 and 18 respectively, i
In Figure 7 the telescoping sections 19 and 20 of the guard are broken" elliptical in 7 formation toreducethe'cost of manufacture 7 I ofthe guard sections, to the minimum. Iclaimr A guard bar comprising a central section and telescoping end sections, said'sections being'constructed of sheet metal material, parallel longitudinal flanges forming apart I ofthe end sections, parallelv longitudin and lateral flanges 9 35 flangesformed on the central section, the
central section being fitted over the end sections, portions of the flanges of the central section extending inwardly and upwardly defining grooves, the longitudinal edges of the flanges 01'' the end sections being fitted in the I grooves of the flanges of the central section,
" portions formed in their outer surfaces, said 7 centralfsectionhaying a longitudinal rib I fitted in the offset portions of'the end sections j tosecure the sections against twisting With respect to'each other, and means forsecu'rin my own, I have hereto said end sectionshaving longitudinal offset the guard to a supporting surface. g In testimony that I claim the foregoing as DANIEL VKEES.
