IMPROVEMENT IN M USIC-STQOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,071, dated January 9, 1877; application filed November 18, 1876.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. WHITE, of Pompton, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Music-Stool, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional front elevation of my improvedi music-stool; and Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same lon line m x, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to an improved musicstool that may be readily taken to pieces for convenient packing and shipping, adjusted with great facility to different heights when in use, and provided with a tilting seat.
The invention consists of a supporting base part, made of detachable sides and transverse brace piece, connected by screw bolts, and carrying a swinging transverse footpiece, with end dogs or catches that engage the sliding rack-posts of the seat, which is secured to the posts by pivot-screws, and adjusted into inclined position by set-screws and inclined front faces of the seat-supports.
In the drawing, A represents the supporting base part, and B the seat of my improved music-stool. The seat B is adjusted'on the base A by means of upright posts or bars C, with downwardly-inclined rack-teeth, which are engaged by a locking foot-piece, D, pivoted to the recessed extensions a of the lateral brace part of base A.
The base part A'is made of three detachable sectionsnamely, of two upright side standards, A1, and a transverse connecting brace-piece, A2, which is securely attached to the standards A1 by two screwbolts, b, at each end, and by ornamental screw-nuts b.
The transverse foot-piece D is ornamented to correspond to the transverse brace A2, and adds thereby to the appearance of the stool. The foot-piece is, preferably, made of wood, with metallic end catches or dogs d, that enter the teeth of the upright rack-posts C.
The seat B is applied to the T-shaped top parts e of the rack-posts O by means of central pivot-screws el, and retained in position by fastening-screws e2, entering holes of the top parts e, back of the posts. The rear sections of the supporting top parts e are horizontal, the front sections are inclined, so that by detaching the fastening-screws e2, tilting the seat forward, and screwing the screws c2 in again, the seat is rigidly retained in forward inclined position.
The rack-posts C slide in central guide-recesses of standards A1, and admit the ready raising of the seat by lifting the same, the catches locking the rack-posts into position.
For lowering the seat, the transverse footpiece D is swung up by the foot, and the rack-posts may then be released and lowered. The seat may be detached from the rack-posts by loosening the pivot-screws c e, and thereby the stool taken to pieces, or knocked down,7 for packing and shipping in convenient manner, forming a convenient, cheap, and readilyadjusted stool.
Having thus described my iuven tion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. As an improvement in music-stools, the combination of the supporting base part A, having pivoted transverse foot-piece with end dogs or catches, with the vertically-sliding and seat-carrying rack-posts O, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. The base part A of a music-stool, constructed of side standards A1, and of a transverse brace-piece, A2, with recessed extensions and apivoted foot-piece, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of the T-shaped top pieces of rack-posts C, being horizontal at the rear and inclined at the front part, with the centrally screw-pivoted seat B and the fastening-screws e2, to secure seat in horizontal or inclined position, substantially as described.
