FREDERICK vnNiTTEL, oF ATTLEBoRo FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS, AssIGNon Toiul s Co., g A oF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS y v I vided.
ConnEGTER Foa BRACELETS `Y y application tied August 5, 1931. serial No. 555,199,
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bracelets andpertains particularly to bracelets' of the expansible type7 the primary object of the invention being to provide an improved form of flexible connection between the ends of the bracelet which connection may be easily and quickly manipulated for the purpose of removing or adding one or more links to the bracelet there-A knuckles 17 which are formed by to shorten or lengthen the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a connection of this type which is of simple and economical construction, and which is composed of a minimum of parts that may be easily and quickly assembled `without the use of solder or other extraneous fastening means.
The invention has further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Y f Figure 1 is a front elevation of the linvention applied to the ends of abracelet;
Figure 2 is a rear side elevation.
Figure 3 is a. section on line 3 3 of Fig-` ure 1;
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of F igure 3, and l Figure 5 is a detail perspectiveview of the cover plate for the springs.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a link 1 is employed which has inwardly extending guides 2`formed on the Y inner faces of its sides. Members composed of parts 3 and 4 hinged together at 5 are pro` The member 3 is formed with aninturned lip 6 which engages the guides 2 at its ends and is formed with an opening 7 that is spaced from the hinge 5. Apair of substantially V-shaped springs 8 having centralcoils 9 are employed, the springs having a crossed relation and being disposed adjacent to the member 3 and therefore are locatedwithin the link l. The outer ends of the springs engage in openings 10 provided therefor in the outerV end of the link 1 while their .opposite ends engage in openings 11 formed ina flange 12 which latter extends downwardly from one end of a cover 13. The iiange 12 is provided with a lug 14 which latter is extended through 1 I-Iaving thus described Vof two an opening providedtherefor-finthe partV 3 andis turned outwardly as shown in Figure 3 in order toclinch same in position., The Lopposite end of the cover is provided with a simi;
lar flange 15 having a hookfshapedpartl 5f,
which latter `extends through the opening :7c in the part It will.thusbe seenthat-the part 3 andthe cover 13 form springs 8. Thepart 4 to snap over the the lip 6 of the part 3. A-finger engaging 'projection V18 is formed on thepart 4 soasto facilitate unlatching of the knuckles 17 vBy referring to Figure 4 of thel draWingsitWill lbe seenthat -theend 19 ofthe endmostflink at d can'be easily removed or applied as desired.l 4
From the foregoing it lwill bessen that the flexible y connecteris composedvof a hinged d d memberforined of the parts 3 and 4which v due to their hinging action enable the endniost linkat the oppositeend ofthe bracelet to be i easily `and quickly attached to the connecter Yand at the connecter is rendered extensible. Y Y
n my invention what I claim as'new and desire to secure'by Let-- vters Patent is 1. In a bracelet7 a link, memberscomposed parts hinged together lat one end, the free endV of one'of saidparts having an inturnedflip, inner .link engageable' with the side edgesof the lip,s`ubstantially V-shaped springs kin crossed relation withinthe link v having oneof their ends engaged with the adjacentend of the link, a cover for the springs having a flanged` end formed with, openings to receive each of the oppositeends of the springslone part of theA hinged meml bers having an` opening spaced from the hinge and each and the flange ofthe cover having a lugzre# i ceived in Vsaid last named opening means to latch the other end of the coverV to said partl of the hinged member, and means tolatch C said parts of the member together.v j
