This invention relates to display devicesV designed for use for advertisingpurposes, and particularly to display devices of the self-supporting type and formed of cardboard or other analogous or suitable material.

One object of the invention is to provide a display device for displaying advertising or reading matter which may be formed from a normally flat shape into a shape and appearance simulating a book, boat, building or other suitable and desired object.

A further object of the invention is t0 provide a display device which may be-die cut or otherwise out into the primary shape of a normally flat blank, so as to be conveniently packed with others of its kind for storage or transportation, and which may be readily shaped from blank form display device.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an article of this character which will embody horizontal and upright supporting portions adapted to be interengaged or inter-locked to firmly support the display surfaces of the device atan appropriate angle.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an article of the specified character which may be made of a very attractive and ornamental design and yet manufacturedY and sold at a comparatively low cost.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a display device the display surfaces of which may be changed whenever desired by the use of supplementary cards or sheets applied to and utilizing the primary display device as a supporting stand or holder.

Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a view showing a set up display device embodying my invention and of a construction to simulate an open book supported for display in an upwardly inclined position.

The display device, while adapted for primary use for display purposes, may be employed as a holder for supplementary sheets 24, as shown in Figs. 5 and 5a, each sheet 24 being made of some thin flexible material conforming in construction to the

2 and 3 and adapted to overlie the same and provided with a central folding or binding portion 4a, similar to the fold 4, which may be arranged to lie between the sides of the fold 4 and to be clamped thereby in position. By this means the advertising or display matter of a display device in use may be changed without discarding such display device, and by using the same as a holder for a supplementary sheet overlying the same, which may bear other display matter, and the advertising matter may thus be changed from time to time by the use of supplementary leaves so that the same general style of advertising matter may be kept up indefinitely if desired.

The shape and appearance of the display card or device may be changed within widely varying degrees and the card given different forms and appearances to suit many and varied purposes. One example of many possible is shown in Fig. 6 in which the card or display device la is shaped and pictorially depicted to represent a supported acorn, said device being shown in folded or set up condition and having the leaves or wings 2a and 3a, center fold or standard 4b, horizontal base supporting wings 6a and 7a and supporting liange 8a, and associated features illustrated and described with reference to Figs. l to 5, inclusive. Similarly an advertising device in the form of a diamond, heart, spade or club, or a boat, building, animal or other object may be formed, and other changes of similar character made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. It will, of course, be understood that the wings or leaves forming the Adisplay surfaces need not be of the same size but may be, if desired, of different sizes and structurally formed and printed to represent various objects. The wings or leaves, for example, may be of different lengths, or different heights, or both, as required in the formation of dierent objects, and my invention is, therefore, not limited in any of these respects.

If desired, suitable means may be provided to mechanically fasten the standard 4 to or interlock said standard 4 with the flange S of the base support so as to obviate liability of casual disengagement of the same. One type of mea-ns for this purpose is shown in Figs. 7 and 8 wherein, in addition to the keeper recess 20 and tongue 22, the flange 8 is provided with punched out slots 24 and the standard 4 with punched out laterallybendable locking tongues 25 to engage said slots. Other types of fastening means for the purpose may be employed instead of slots and tongues and other means of fastening the folds of the standard at their upper ends may be employed in lieu of the bendable part 13.

What I claim is l. A display device comprising a card .having oppositely extending wing portions forming display surfaces, an intermediate foldable portion Aforming a supporting upright, and a base portion cooperating with the upright to form a supporting stand for the wings.

2. A display device comprising a card having oppositely extending upright wings or leaves, a foldable portion between the leaves adapted to be projected rearwardly of the plane thereof to form a supporting upright, horizontal wings or leaves at the lower edges of the upright leaves adapted to be projected rearwardly to form a supporting` base, and a folding portion between the horizontal leaves and providing a supporting fiange, said upright and flange having engaging surfaces for interconnecting the same to support the upright leaves in display position.

8. A display device comprising a card having oppositely extending upright main wings, a foldable portion between the main wings adapted when in folded position to form a supporting upright, horizontal wings at the lower edges of the upright wings adapted to be bent at an angle thereto to form a supporting base, a folding portion between the horizontal wings adapted when folded to form an upright supporting flange, the said folding portions between the wings being separated by a quadrangular slot whereby said portions are action when the device is set up, the standard and flange having surfaces adapted for engagement to support the display wings in an inclined position.

4. A display device comprising a blank having oppositely extending upright main wings, horizontal wings at the lower edges of the main wings adapted to be bent at an angle thereto to form a supporting stand therefor, a folding portion between the main wings adapted when folded to form a supporting upright, a folding portion between the horizontal wings adapted when folded to provide a supporting flange extending upright from said wings, the said folding portions being separated by a quadrangular slot leaving` their adjacent edges free from each other, and retaining means on the ange adapted to be engaged by the lower end of the support-ing upright to hold the main wings in display position.

5. A display device comprising a card having oppositely projecting main wings, a folding portion between the main wings adapted to be doubled to form a supporting upright. horizontal wings at the lower edges of the separated for a lapping,

main wings adapted to be bent at an angle thereto t-o form a support therefor, a folding portion between the horizontal Wings adapted to be doubled to form an upright supporting flange when the horizontal wings are in supporting position, said folding p-ortions of the main and; horizontal wings being separated by a slot to permit folding of the foldable portions and adapt the lower end of the upright to be disposed at one side of the flange in the operative position of the display device, the said flange having a slitted portion providing a keeper to receive the upright and a tongue cooperating therewith to hold the upright from displacement.

6. A display device having main upright wings, a folding portion between the wings adapted to be doubled to form a supporting upright therefor, a supporting base carried by said wings, the upright and base having means for connection to support the wings in an inclined position from the base, and a supplemental sheet comprising leaves adapted to overlie the wings and provided with a folding portion between said leaves adapted to be received within and held by the folding portion of the wings.

7. A. display device having niain upright Wings, a portion between the wings adapted to be folded to form a supporting upright, a supporting base carried by said wings, and fastening means for connecting said upright with said base.

8. A display device having niain upright wings, a portion between the wings adapted to be folded to form a supporting upright, a supporting base carried by the wings and having an upst-anding flange, the upright and flange having retaining nieans for supporting the wings in an inclined position from the base, and fastening means for securing the upright to the flange.
