UNITED STATES PATENT FFIC'E.
DELANDO PRATT, OF OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185.780, dated December 26, 1876; application filed April 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELANDO PRATT, of
Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Bed-Bottoms, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in a bed-bottom having slats, provided with enlarged holes in their ends, an upper crossbar, and a lower cross-bar with its upper inner corners beveled, bearded pins, and slotted bands, a band round the cross-bar with a screw-eye, over which the band hooks, and inclined springs and fulcrum-blocks.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of my improved bed-bottom. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective "iews of portions of my bed-bottom taken at difl'erent angles. Fig. 4 is. a section on the line a; m, Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a view of one of the slats.
A represents the end springs of the bed-bottom, inclined inward; B, the cross-bar, on which the slats lay; O, the slats; D, the cross bar or rod across the ends of the slats, to hold them down; E, the bands round the cross-bar and the inner ends of the springs, to hold them together; F, zinc, or other pieces under the toes of springs A, to keep them from making a noise; Gr, zinc, or other metal, under fulcrum-block Li, and between said blocks and the springs; I I, bands round the ends of cross-bar B and rod D. These bands are tacked at one end, and have a slotted holein the other end, which passes over the head of a screw-eye, K, which can be turned crosswise, and hold the hand in place L L, screws in a slot in the feet of springs A; M, zinc pieces, or other material under the slats C. These pieces of metal have holes in them, through which bearded pins N pass, and the cross-bar B is beveled on the inside. 0 are cords or bands passing over the cross-bar, and around a bar, Q, of the bedstead, on which the springs of the bed-bottom rest. P are holes in the ends of the slats 0, made larger than the pins N in the cross-bar B, by which the slats are held, so that when part of the slats are pressed down the rest of them will hold the sections out, so as to strengthen the center of the slats. Q, foundation -bar on which the springs rest.
I claim as new and as my invention 1. Band I, one end of same being fastened to the cross-bar B, and having a slot in the other end, hooking over the screw-eye K, which screw-eye may be turned crosswise of the band, in combination with the cross-bar B, and rod D, and slats O, substantially as described.
2. The bed-bottom, consisting of slats 0, having enlarged holes P in their ends, upper cross-bar D, cross-bars B having their upper inner corners beveled, bearded pins N, slotted bands I, screw-eyes K, inclined springs A, fulcrum-blocks H, and bands E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
