This invention relates to drapery and curtain support and operating'm'eans therefor" and more particularly of the type which embodies a hollow guide havinga longitudinal slot in one face, the walls of the hollow guide or tube on opposite sides of the slot serving as tracks or bearing surfacesfor the-plurality of carriers whichare attachedto the curtain or drapery, and which have suitable 1o runners adapted to slide-or roll along the tracks during the movement of the curtain or drapery. This invention relatesto and is an improvement upon the devices shown' n my prior Patent No. 1,545,850, July 14, 1925 1 and patent to Furlong, No. 1,661,137, February 28,1928.

An object of'this invention isto-provide a device or apphance of thls-charac'ter 1nwhich the curtain or drapery may be adj usted' so without the jamming or cloggingof the carriers in the tracks and in which the carriers will slide freely in their movements, whlch' are controlled by cords, wires or the like connected to certainof the carriers only. 7

Another object of this-invention is the provision of a hollow guide ortube which is shaped so as to receive and conceal'the operating cords, wires-and the like and'in which operating carriers are provided with saddle t-su members to frictionally' and a'dj ustably'reeeive the operating cords or wires, whereby these operating carriers may be readily-ads justed upon said operating cords or wires;

Another object of this invention'is the provision of removable mountings or, frames for the end pulleysor-- wheels about which the operating cords or rods run.

Further objects include improvements in details of construction and arrangement whereby a simple and eifective'd evice ofthis character is-provided.

Referring now. to the drawings, the numeral 1: designates-a'hollow guidewhich is adapted to be suitably secured to any. suitable support. This guide is provided with a longitudinal slot or opening2. The walls shown in'the Furlong PatentNo.- 1,661,137 or of other constructions. Essentially, however, they include, referring to Figures 6 and 8 particularly, a body member 8 having an axle or shaft 9 extending eccentrically therethrough. On this shaft on opposite sides of the body member are mounted suitable rollers or wheels 10 which are adapted to bear upon the bearing surfaces and run along the tracks, as clearly shown in Figure 6. These wheels or rollers are preferably spaced from the body member by means of the washers 11. The body member is of substantial thickness axially so as to susbtantially fill the slot 2 in the tubular or hollow guide 1. This body member is of substantial thickness diametrically and is greater in that dimension than the diametrical thickness of the wheels or rollers 10'so as to prevent the wheels or rollers of adjacent carriers jamming together in operation. This is all shown and described in the previous patents above referred to. The body member is provided with suitable eyes or other attaching means 12 which are preferably swivelled thereto. These eyes are designed to be attached or secured to the curtain, drapery and the like.

Certain of the carriers 7 must be positively connected to the operating wire or cord 13 and this is accomplished by providing the saddle member 14 (see Figure 8), which has an elongatedand substantially fiat body portion 15, provided with anaperture 16 near each end. This body portion has a down wardly turned ear or lug 17 provided on each side and spaced so as to overlap or overhang the body member 8 of the carrier. These ears orlugs 17 are apertured to receive the axle or shaft 9 of the carrier.

The cord or wire 13 is looped around the pulley 20 and the free end portions 18 and 19 are then passed over the pulleys 21. I have provided anew means for mounting and assembling the pulleys 2 0 and 21. Thelug 25 is shaped to fit within the longitudinal recess portion 6 and the end flange 24 is shaped to close the end of the hollow tube or track member.

' Referring now'to Figure 9, the removable mounting for the pulleys 21 comprises the base or bottom member 28 having the side flanges 29 which are adapted to fit the semicircular portions 3 of the hollow tube or track member. This element is in turn provided with the end flange 30 from which extends a pair of spaced lugs or projections 31, which are apertured to receive a horizontal stud or shaft 32, upon which the pulleys 21 aremounted for rotation. A suitable spacing element or partition 33 is positioned in this mounting between the pulleys 21 so as to prevent the lays of the cord or wire becoming entangled. The lugs or projections 31 are arranged so as to fit tightly within the vertical portions 5 of the hollow track or tube member and the end flange 30 has a reduced projection 34 which is adapted to fit against the end of the hollow track or tube,

It is to be noted that the extra space 6 afforded by the particular track or tube construction receives the pulleys and the cords and also the saddles for the operating carriers, as well as the removable end pieces and mountings for the two pulley constructions.

said carriers having a drapery-attachingmember secured thereto, flexible means for. operatmg said carriers, means for attaching said flexible means to certain of said car-' riers including a saddle member pivotally mounted upon said carrier, having a flat body portion provided with restricted apertures near each end of a size suflicient to receive said flexible means and at the same time to cause an abrupt bending of the same whereby said flexible means is frictionally and adjustably connected to said saddle member.

As an article of manufacture, a carrier for a curtain and drapery support including a body member, an axle extending through said body member and provided with a bear-. ing member on each side thereof, a saddle member provided with lugs adapted to eming member on each side thereof, a saddle member provided with lugs adapted to em brace said body member and to receive said axle, said saddle member also having a substantially flat body member with a restricted aperture near each end thereof adapted to receive and sharply bend aflexible operating means. 7

A drapery and curtain support including, in combination, a hollow guide for the curtain or drapery supporting means, a removable end member for each end of said hollow guide, each removable end member being provided with bottom and side flanges adapt- ,ed to frictionallly engage the bottom and sides of the hollow guide, and also having a pulley rotatably mounted therein. 7

12. A drapery and curtain support including, incombination, a hollow guide for the curtain or drapery supporting means, a removable end member for each end of said hollow guide, each removable end member being provided with bottom and side flanges adapted to frictionally engage the bottom and sides of the hollow guide, each removable end member being formed with parallel lugs, anaxle mounted in said parallel lugs and a pulley rotatably mounted on said axle.

In a drapery and curtain support, a hollow guide member formed with a longitudinal slot, semi-circular side portions at each side of said slot merging into vertical portions which are connected to a flat top portion forming an enlarged longitudinal space in the upper portion of said hollow guide member which space has a width substantially equal to the combined width of the rollers for the flexible means.

14. In a drapery and curtain support, a

hollow guide member formed with a longitudinal slot, semi-circular side portions at each side of said slot merging into vertical portions which are connected to a flat top portion forming an enlarged longitudinal space in the upper portion of said hollow guide member,- and removable end members provided with rollers and having bottom and side flanges adapted to frictionally engage portions of the hollow'guide member'which' enlarged longitudinal space has a width substantially equal to thecombined width of the rollers.

A removable end member adapted to be received within a guide and adapted to be removed therefrom after the guide is fastened to a structure for use, said end member being provided with top, bottom and side flanges adapted to frictionally engage the top, bottom and sides of the guide and also having means for guiding and supporting a flexible curtain operating means. 7

A removable end member adapted to be received within a guide and adapted to be removed therefrom after the guide is fastened to a structure foruse, said end member being provided with bottom and side flanges adapted to frictionally engage bottom and sides of the guide, said end member also being provided with a flange adapted to abut and close the end of the tube or guide and means mounted in said end member for guiding and supporting a flexible curtain operating means.

19. A device of the character described,

comprising a removable end member having a base and adapted to be received within a guide, said end member being provided with an end flange adapted to abut the end of the guide and parallel lugs on said end member for receiving a pulley, one of said lugs being struck up'from said base.

20. As an article ofmanufacture, a carrier for a curtain and drapery support, including,

a body member, an axle extending eccentrically through said body member and provided with bearing members, a saddle member 1 provided with lugs adapted to embrace said ody member and to receive said axle and be pivoted thereon, said saddle member also having an elongated body member provided with openings adjacent each end to receive a flexible operating means.

21. As an article of manufacture, a carrier for a curtain and drapery support, including a body member, a saddle member provided With lugs adapted to embrace said body member, means for pivotally mounting said saddle member on said body member, said saddle member having an elongated body provided with openings adjacent each end to receive a flexible operating means, and a drapery attaching member swivelly connected to said body member.
