This invention relates to improvements in spinning and twisting machines and has for its object to provide a machine having its source of power located within and adjacent one frame of the machine, thereby mimmizing the floor space occupied by the machine and forming a unitary structure.
Another object is to provide a machine having its driving mechanism located within one end frame and its belt tightening mechanism adjacent thereto, thereby utilizing the minimum length of belt for obtaining the maximum result.
Another object is to provide a mounting for the motor and its driving pulley within the frame of the machine and the idler takeing ease and rapidity of adjustment, as well as removing and replacing of belts whenever $0 desired.
Another object is to provide certain 1mprovements in the form, constructionand arrangement of the severalparts, whereby the above named and other objects may effective- 2! 1y be attained.

A motor supporting plate '6 is dis sed inside and adjacent the end frame 1 an provided with brackets 7, 8, 9, and 10, which are arranged to engage the pairs ofrods 2, 3. The brackets 7 and 8 are secured to the pair of rods 2 by clamping members 11, 12 which are brought into engagement with the 'rods 2 by means of bolts 13 and 14 respectively. The brackets 9, 10 are similarly fixed to the rods 3 by clamping members 15, 16 and bolts 17 and 18. By means of the brackets and clamps the plate 6 may be adjusted lengthwise on the pairs of rods 2, 3 toward and away from the end frame 1, so as to accommodate any desired length of belt.
A motor 19 is suspended from the supporting plate 6 by means of bolts 20. The upper end of the vertically disposed shaft 21 of the motor is arranged to extend above the supporting plate 6 in position to receive a driving pulley 22.
Idler pulleys 23, 24 are mounted outside and adjacent the frame 1, each of which pulleys is journaled in a bearin 25 carried by a plate 26. This plate 26 is sli able in oppositely disposed grooves 27, 28 formed in arms 29, 30 of a bracket 31, which is secured to a yoke 32 fast on the frame 1.
An endless driving belt 33 passes partially around the driving pulley 22 to the idler pulleys 23, 24, thence through the machine to other ulleys (not shown), which may be fixed to t e pairs of rods 2, 3, or they may be idler pulleys similar to the pulleys above described.
The tension of the driving belt 33 on the pulleys is automatically regulated by means I of a two armed lever 34 pivoted at 35 in a support 36 carried by the yoke 32. The upper end 37 of the lever 34 is arranged to enter a slot 38 in the plate 26, while the lower end 39 of the lever 34 is yieldingly engaged by a .spring 40, one end of which spring 1s secured to a screw threaded eye-bolt 41 carried by a bracket 42 fixed to the inside of the frame 1.
The tension of the spring 40 ed by means of a nut 43 having a screw threaded engagement with the eye-bolt 41 and abutting the bracket 42.
The spindles 44 are held against the face of the belt 33 by any well known or approved mechanism, so that as the belt 33 is driven the spindles are rotated by frictional engagement with the belt therewith.
From the foregoing it will readily be understood that the driving mechanism is contained well within the confines of the frame and the driven idler pulleys outside and adjacent the driving mechanism, thereby minimizing the floor s ace occupied by the machine. Another a vantage of this construction is the fact that the machine employs the shortest possible endless belt to accomplish a maximum result, as well as facilitating the ease and rapidity of removing and replacing the belt whenever desired.
It is obvious that various changw may be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and sec of my invention; and hence, I do not intend to be limited to the details herein shown and described except as they may be included in the claims.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys for said belt, of a motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt mounted within the said end frame, and at least one take-up idler pulley horizontally disposed outside the frame, said driving and take-up pulleys being arranged in the same plane.
2. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an-end frame, a
spindle driving belt and pulleys for said belt,
of a motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt mounted within and adjacent the said end frame and at least one take-up idler pulley horizontally disposed outside the frame, said driving and take-up pulleys being arranged in the same plane.
3. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, rails fixed-to said endframe, and pulleys for said belt, of a horizontally arranged means secured to said rails within the end frame, a motor fixed to said means and having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one take-up idler pulle horizontally disposed outside the frame and adjacent said driving pulley.
4. 5. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, rails fixed to said end frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys'for said belt, of a horizonarrangedplatesecured to said rails wit in the end frame, a motor fixed to said plate and havinga vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one take-up idler pulley horizontally disposed outside the frame and adjacent said driving pulley.
6. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, rails fixed to said end'frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys -for said belt, of a horizontally arranged plate adjustably secured to said rails wlthin and adjacent the end frame,-
a motor fixed to said plate and having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for-the belt, and at least one take-up idler pulley horizontally disposed outside the frame and adjacent said driving pulley.
7. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, a spindledriving belt and pulleys for said belt, of a horizontally arranged motor carrying means secured within the said end frame and adjustable lengthwise of the machine, a motor suspended from said means, said motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one take-up idler pulley adjacent said driving pulley.
8. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys for said belt, of a horizontally arranged motor carrying means secured within and adjacent the said end frame and adjustable lengthwise of the machine, a motor suspended from said means,
said motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one take-up idler 'pulley adjacent said driving pulley.
9. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys for said belt, of a horizontally arranged plate secured within the said end frame and adjustable lengthwise of the machine, a motor suspended from said plate, said motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one takeup idler pulley adjacent said driving pulley.
10. The combination with a spinning and twisting machine having an end frame, a spindle driving belt and pulleys for said belt, of a horizontally arranged plate secured within and adjacent the said end frame and adjustable lengthwise of the machine, a motor suspended from said plate, said motor having a vertically disposed shaft and a driving pulley thereon for the belt, and at least one take-up idler pulley adjacent said driving pulley.
