UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DETACHABLE CARRIER Application filed February 27, 19320. Serialv No. 431,772. Y*
The object of my invention is to produce a` detachable carrier for rectangular objects, such as, for example, storage batterie-s having containers of hard rubber, wood or glass.
For a more complete exposition of my ine Vention reference may be had to the annexed y Figure 3 is an end elevation showing dia-l rammatically the device as applied to anob- )ect to be lifted.
Figure 4 is an end elevation similar to Figure 3 showing the handle in another position.
My device consists of a U-shaped frame l for the construction of which sheet steel is a suitable material. At the upper end of frame 1 is pivotally mounted handle 2 on l'rivets 3. A suitable material for the construction of handle 2 is wrought iron. Handle 2 may, if desired, carry a grip 4 thereon which may be made of maple wood or other material and which may be secured to handle 2 by ferrules 5 which may be of brass.- The grip element 4 may be omitted or may be secured to handle 2 in any other suitable manner.
Integral with or otherwise actuated by handle 2 are hooks 6 having extensions 7 thereon extending parallel to the bottom of frame 1. Extending from frame 1 on the opposite side to hooks 6 are stops 8 which are suitably made of sheet steel and secured to frame 1 in any The entire device may proof or in any other desired manner.
As shown in Figures 3 and 4 my deviceis applied to lifting a storage battery orother object. The object is first tilted slightly, as
seen in Figure 4, so that the frame may be.,
slid beneath the object until stops 8 come Ain contact with the lateral walls thereof. Han- I:dle 2 is then lifted whereby hooks 6 are actuated so that extensions 7 embrace the opposite lateral wall of the object to be lifted so that the object may be carriedirom handle 2. Claim: Y A detachable carrier for storage batteries including in combination a U-shaped frame adapted to underlie the bottom of and embrace t-he sides of a storage battery,a handle pivotally mounted on said U-shaped frame adjacent its top, stops extending laterally from said frame to embrace corners of said storage battery, and hooks extending from said frame opposite to said stops and pivotally mounted on the same pivot as said handle to be actuated by said handle.
