I ANTON SCHUMER, F CLEVELAND, OHIO CIGARETTE CONTAINER AND DISPENSER Application med Navember 2e, 1930. serial No. 498,449.
This invention relates to a cigarette container and dispenser and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set' forth, a device ofthe character embodyingv a baseV supported vertical standard upon which is mounted for vertical reciprocation a containerfor the reception of the cigarettes, the standard having its upper endV or edge grooved to receive one of the cigarettes in a manner to eject said one cigarette through an opening in the upper side of thel container when said container is raised and then lowered relative to the standard.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a cigarette container and dispenser of the characterdescribed embodying a novel construction and arrangement of par ts whereby each cigarette, when ejected, will be retained in an upright or inclined position to facilitate the removal thereof.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a cigarette container and dispenser of the character set forth which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, efficient and reliable in use, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from av study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding`parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a'view in top plan of a cigarette container and dispenser in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a view in vert-ical longitudinal section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure l. Y
Figure 4 is a view in vertical cross section taken substantially on the line 4 4 of Figure 1.
longitudinal section showing the upper portion of the device and just prior to the ejec tion of a cigarette.
Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 5 showing the device after the cigarette has been ejected.
-The slots 5 and 6 slidably receive a vermeans, such as a screw 8 to the'base 1. An integral, longitudinally grooved head 9 is provided on the upper end of the standard 7 and hasl its ends projecting beyond the ver-l tical edges of the standard 7: The upperside' of the container 3 is provided with a longi# tudinallyextending slot 10 for the reception ofthe head 9, one end ofthe slot 10 extending beyond the `Corresponding' end of' the head 9 for a purpose to be presently set forth. A `depending abutment 11 is secured in the container 3 adjacent said one end of the upfper slot 10` and the corresponding end portion of the head9 is provided with a notch or recess 12. The longitudinal groove in the head 9 is designated by the reference numeral 13 and the cigarettes in thev device are designated by the reference numeral 14.
' The notch or recess 12in the head 9 is. substantially semi-circular fin form and the corresponding end wall of the slot'lO is also substantially semi-circular in form. As before stated, the slot 10 is of greater length than the head 9 but said slot 10 is ofless length-than the cigarettes 14. It may be Well vn, Lil
'f vantage in Figure 6 of the drawings.
It is believed that the many advantages of a device in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be hadwhich will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new is: y
A cigarette dispensing device comprising a base, brackets adjacent each end of the base `having a substantially semi-circular recess in its upper portion, a barrel shaped container normally resting in the recesses in the bracket and disposed in a horizontal plane, a bottom member in the container, said bottom member and the lower part of the container having longitudinal extending slots therein, a slot in the container located intermediate the ends thereof and the slot in the bottom part extending from one end thereof to an intermediate part which is in alinement with the adjacent end of the slot in the container, with the surface of the bottom part sloping inwardlyl and downwardly to the slot, a standard attached to the base and passing through the slot and having its ends and side walls guided by the walls of the slot in the container, the upper part of the contain- Y er having a longitudinally extending slot therein extending from one end thereof to a point an appreciable distance from the other end, the last mentioned end of the slot having a semi-cylindrical. end wall, aj headformed on the upper end of the standard and of greater length than the width of the stand ard, one end of the head contacting an end of the container and the other end of the head being spaced from the semi-circular end walls of the slot in the upper part of the container and this end of the head having a vertically arranged notch therein of substantially semi-circular form which forms with the semi-circular end of the slot in the container, a circular opening, the upper edge of the head having a longitudinal groove therein extending from end to end of the head and a depending projection on the inner face of the top part of the container having its inner end in alinement with part of the cylindrical end wall of the slot in top of the container.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
