Patented Apr. 26, 1932 UNITED STATES HARRY P. CARSTENBBOOK, OF MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA CAMP STOVE Application filed January 28, 1931. Serial m. 511,870.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stoves, and has particular reference to a camp stove.
The principal object of this invention is to produce a stove wherein the same may be folded so as to occupy a minimum amount of space.
A further object is to produce a stove which is simple in construction and one which has no detachable parts which might become lost in transportation.
A further object is to produce a stove wherein an oven is an integral part of the stove in counter-distinction to that type of oven which is often placed upon the top of a stove.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals areemployed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my stove,
Figure 2 is an end elevation of Fig. 1, and on an enlarged scale, part of the door being broken away in order to show the oven compartment,
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of my stove showing the parts in folded position and on the same scale as Fig. 1,
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 4:4: of Fig. 1, and showing in dotted lines the manner in which the oven and end portions may be folded, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 4, showing the manner in which the corners are fastened together.
It is often necessary to produce a stove which may be readily transported from place to place, particularly in the mountains where the only means of transportation is the pack mule, and it is also often desirable to have a folding stove which can be readily employed while touring, in automobile camps and like places.
Applicant has therefore produced a very simple camp stove which is relatively strong and one which will provide a maximum of heating surface for cooking thereon.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the top of the stove, which top has secured around its outer edge an angle iron edge piece 6, the purpose of which is to strengthen the top and to hold the same against warping due to the heat within the stove. A stove pipe is shown at 7 which fits over a suitable thimble formed in the top 5. Hinged to each end of the top are end pieces 8 and 9, which have turned edges as shown at 11, (see Fig. 5.) The hinged connection between these end pieces 8 and 9 are shown at 12 and 13 respectively, (see Fig. 3.) Also, hinged to the top 5 thru the medium of rods 14 and 16, are side pieces 17 and 18 respectively. These side pieces carry fastening elements 19 which are adapted to pass thru slots formed in the turned edges 11 of the ends, (see Fig. 1.) The side piece 18 has hingedly secured thereto, as at 21, an oven bottom 22. The free end of this oven bottom has a down-turned edge which fits in a return bend formed in an oven side plate 23 which is hinged as at 2 1 to the top 5. A door 24 gives access to the oven space A as well as to the fire space B. This door is provided with the customary hinges and fastening elements, and also has a fire door 26 pivotally secured thereto thru the medium of which the fire may be viewed, and fresh fuel fed thereto. This door may also be employed for the purpose of regulating a draft to the fire.
It will thus be seen that I have produced a stove which will accomplish all of the objects above set forth.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts .r
may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim In a device of the character described, a stove top, end pieces hinged to said stove top, said end pieces having turned edges, side pieces hinged to said top, means for securing said side pieces to said turn edges of said end pieces, said end pieces and said side pieces being adapted to fold one upon the other so as to lie parallel with said top, an oven bottom hinged to one of said end pieces, an oven side piece hinged to said top, means for detachably securing said bottom piece and said side pieces of said oven one to the other.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HARRY P. CARSTEN BROOK.
