This invention relates in general to sheet metal roofing and has particular reference to sheet metal roofing of the class made up of sections having longitudinally extending approximately V-shaped crimps or channels which operate to stiffen and strengthen the sections and to provide for the intertitting of the sections in weather tight relation in a roof.
One of the principal objects of the invention resides in the provision of novel means in a roof of this character for closing the channels or openings of the crimps at the eaves of the roof in such manner as to prevent the ingress of rain, snow, sleet, or the like, and to strengthen and reinforce the section and facilitate fastening thereof to the sub structure or framing of the roof.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a novel ridge roll structure for sheet metal roofing of either the crimped or corrugated type, the ridge roll structure being extremely simple and durable and being easily adjusted to the pitch of the roof or to compensate for lack of register or alinement of the corrugations or crimps on the opposite ides or slopes of the roof.
Other objects and advantages reside in certain novel features of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming the subject matter of this specification and in which:

To preclude this and to facilitate fastening of the sections to the roof framing at the eaves and also to strengthen and reinforce the sections, combined closures and rein forcing elements are provided for each crimp each closure and reinforce being designated generally at 10 and comprising a substantially inverted V-shaped body portion 11 having one end closed by an end Wall 12 and having the sides of its body portion and its end wall 12 formed with flanges designated at 13 and 14 respectively. If desired, the flange 14 may be fluted at its center. In the assembly, the body portions 11 snugly fit in the lower ends of the crimps 2 and the flanges 13 underlie the body portion of the roofing section 1 adjacent the crimps 2 thereof. The closed end Wall 12 lies just below the lower end of the sections 1 at the eaves of the roof. This provides a complete Weather tight closure and also reinforces the crimps and permits them to be nailed to the framing Without distortion or collapse.
In Figures 6 and 7, the novel ridge roll structure is shown incorporated in a corrugated type of roof. As illustrated, the roof proper is made up of corrugated sheet metal sections 20 and the ridge roll consists of similar members designated at 4: and 5 Which are similar in all respects to the members 4 and 5 of the embodiment just described except that the body portions designated at 6' in lieu of having crimps are provided With corrugations 7 designed to interfit With the corrugations of the roofing sections 20.
The invention claimed is:
1. A sheet metal roofing made up of sections having longitudinally extending crimps serving to strengthen and stiffen the sections and adapted to be interfitted in the assembly in Weather tight relation, and a separate combined closure and reinforce for the end of each crimp at the eaves of the roof, said combined closure and reinforce being fitted Within its crimp of the roof and underlying the same and having an exposed end Wall for excluding Weather.
2. A sheet metal roofing including a section formed with the longitudinally extending crimp extending from end to end thereof,
' and a combined reinforce and closure for the end of the crimp at the eaves of the roof and including a body portion adapted to be fitted Within the crimp and formed with an end Wall, the sides of the body portion and the end Wall being flanged, the flanges of the side of the body portion underlying the portions of the sheet metal roof along the margin of the crimp, the end Wall and its flange being disposed beyond the end of the section and completing the end structure of the roofing.
