Another object of-the invention-is to-provide a pocket check protector having a guard over the perforating rolls to prevent damage to, thelrolls by the accidental engagement of the same witlrportions off the clothing and also to prevent-damage to the clothing of the person carrying the device. 7 i

The shaft 12 is surrounded by a coiled spring 15, one end of whichis held by the adjacent jaw '3 oran adjacent wall thereof while the other end bears against the door 13 in the manner shown and this spring is so formed that it constantly acts to force the door to open position. When the door 13 is swung upwardly uponthe shaft 12 it completely closes the space between the upper and lower front wall portions 6 and between the forward edges of I the upper and lower jaws 2 and 3 and in order to maintain the door in closed position against the tension of the springtheforward edge thereof is provided with a lip 16 which frictionally engages over the rib 7 upon the top jaw. Since it is necessary to slightly compress the'jaws in order to force the lip 16 over the rib 7 it will be readily seen that the normal tendency of the jaws to separate and maintain the desired engagement between V the lip and the rib will thus keep the door 13 in closed position. @In order to open the door it is only necessary to move the jaws of the device together whereupon the lip-16 Will be released and the spring 15 will act to throw the door open to the position shown.

A check or other paper may then be entered between the rollers 9 and moved in wardly the full lengthrof the protector and by thencompressing the jaws to force the rollers together until the paper is gripped thereby, and then drawing the paper outwardly it will be readilyseen that a perforated stripwill be formed in the paper of j a width equal to the width of the rollers 9 and" of a length substantially equal to the lensgth of the jaw members.

nce the present device as designed maybe made relatively small the portion 4 thereof may be provided with an eye or ring 17 so that the device may be conveniently attached to a'watch chain or to a key ring as desired.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is: j I

1. A check protecting device, comprising an elongated casing havlng a top and bottom Wall, said walls being joined at one end by a 'anelongated casing having a top and bottom wall, said walls being joined at one'end by a resilient connecting Wall, a side wall carried by andextending inwardly from the longi:

tudinal edge of said top and bottom walls, the free edges of the side walls of the top of the casing being in spaced opposed relation to the adjacent edges of the other side walls, a pair of perforating rollers each being rotatably mounted between a pair of side walls, said rollers being designed to be brought into contacting relation, a shaft extending transversely between a pair of side walls at the other end of the casing from said resilient portion, a door for closing said other end of the casing mounted upon said shaft, and resilient means mounted on the shaft and engagingthe door and normally urging the same to open position.

8. A check protecting device, comprising an elongated body having a top and bottom 1 wall connected at one end by a resilient rounded wall, each of said top and bottom walls having a longitudinallyextending side wall, the sidewalls of the top and bottom walls being normally in edge opposed relation, a pair of perforating rollers mounted between said top and bottom walls and arranged to be brought into contacting relation, each of said rollers being rotatably supported be tween a pair of side Walls, a door for covering the other end of the body, a shaft mounted between v a pair of side walls at said other end and having said door pivotally supported thereon, a spring member mounted upon'said shaft and normally urging said door to open position, and catchme'ans formaintaining said door closed.' j I In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures.
