Description

H. H. CAMMANN.
BLIND-SLAT ADJUSTER.
No.185,491. Patented Dec. 19,1876.

A g d IN "TUB:
ATTORNEYS.
THE GRAPH": COMM UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE HERMANN H. OAMMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLlND-SLAT ADJUSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,491, dated December 19, 1876; application filed December 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN H. CAMMANN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Blind- Adjuster, of which the following is a specification:
Figures 1 and 2 represent a vertical section of a portion of a blind with my improved adjuster attached. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the attachment for the slat-operating rod.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists of two arms, jointed together, and provided with a notched segment and a spring bolt or detent, and jointed to a plate attached to the lower rail of the blind, and, by means of an adjustable band, to the rod that operates the slats, the'object being to furnish an adjuster for the slats of blinds, by means of which they may be placed and retained in any desired position.
In the drawing, A is a plate, provided with ears a, and attached to the upper surface of the cross-bar or rail B of a blind by means of screws. 0 is an arm, pivoted between the cars a a, and provided with the notched or toothed segment I). D is a hollow arm, that contains a spring bolt or detent, 0, and is slotted in one side to permit of moving the spring-bolt by means of the knob 01, which projects from it. The lower end of the hollow arm-D has formed onit a socket, e, in which the end of the arm C, having the notched segment, is pivoted, so that the detent 0 may engage with the notches of the segment. The
upper end of the arm D is pivoted on a bolt, f, which passes through the lower end of the rod E, by which the slats are moved. F is an adjustable band, that surrounds the lower end of the slat, and is provided with a hole at g, and slots at h, for receiving the bolt f. A lip, i, is turned on the inner end of the band F, and a series of slits, j, are cut in the overlapping end, with which the lip '1; engages. This arrangement permits of the attachment of the band to rods of different sizes.
When the bolt or detent c is moved so as to release the segment I), the blind-slats may be placed in any desired position, where they are retained by allowing the detent to again engage the segment.
Where my improved adjuster is attached it is impossible to turn the slats from the outside, and the usual rattling in old and loose blinds caused by the wind is obviated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination of the plate A, having ears a, arm 0, having the notched segment b, the hollow arm D, boltf, and spring-detent c, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The adjustable band F, provided with the slitsj and lip i, in combination with the arms 0 and D, and bolt f, substantially as shown and described.
HERMANN H. CAMMANN.
