IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-TANKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,453, dated December 19, 1876; application filed December 9, 1876.
To all whom it mdy concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN D. OSBORNE, of Keene, in the county of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Oil-Tank and Deck-Top; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure I is a perspective view of my combined oil-tank and deck-inclosing pump. Fig. II is a view of clamp D, made adjustable for holding the pump in place. Fig. III is a sectional view of the top of the pump B and cap 0.
A is the tank, having the deck A, with hinged lid a, as shown in Fig. I. B is an ordinarv force-pump, held in place by the clamp D, fastened to the deck. 0 is a thimbleshaped movable cap, inserted into the top of the pump to prevent an overflow of oil when the piston is plunged in pumping. The cap is perforated for the insertion of the pistonrod.
The cap is made in the shape of a thimble, to permit the handle of the piston-rod to pass inside and below the top of the pump, as shown in Fig. I.
The tank is made of wood or metal, and coated with a preparation impervious to oil, to prevent leaking in case the tank is made of wood, and corrosion in case of metal.
The deck, having a hinged top or lid, incloses the upper portion of the pump, and affords room for the storage of measures, tunnels, or other apparatus used in measuring oils.
The pump can be taken out and inserted into the barrel, and used to fill the tank preparatory for use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- 1. In combination with a deckcover, a pump-body having the thimble set into the top thereof, which receives the entire handle of the pump below the upper end of the pumpbody, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pump-clamp consisting of two parts, each having a recess for the pump-body, and being hinged and hooked together, one being rigidly attached to some suitable part of the tank or deck, as set forth.
