Description

April 12, E; c, PEART 1,853,994 HEEL STAINER Filed Sept. 8, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet l Ear/e 6. Pea rz INVENTOR E. c. PEART HEEL STAINER April 12, 1932.
2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Sept. 8, 1931 INVENTOILR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 12, 1932 UNITED STATES EARLE CHAPMAN miner, or LowELL, MASSACHUSETTS v HEEL siminnn' I Application filed September The invention relates to a heel trimming machine attachment and more especially to a heel stainer. V I
The primary object of the invention is the l? provision of an attachment of this character wherein staining liquid can be conveyed to the beveled edge of the top lift of a heel of a womans shoe so that such edge can be stained simultaneously with the trimming 1 thereof, the attachment being of novel form so as to follow and properly stain the top lift of the heel during the working of the trimming machine.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of an attachment of this character 55 parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of theinvention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevationof a shoe heel trimming machine showing the attachment constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto. I
Figure 2 is an end elevation partly in section. r Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view. Figure 4 is a detail elevation of a staining brush assembly. 7 r 4 Figure 5 is an end elevation thereof.
Figure 6 is a bottom plan. Figure 7 is a side elevation. V Figure 8 is a sectional view on the line 88 of Figure 7 v Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates the head of a wood heel trimming machine which may be of any standard construction and equipped withthe usual-- toothed" trimming knife B, its journalbei'ng driven inany suitablemanner preferablyby a belt (not shown). The knife is covered by algu'ard C so that only the workingportion thereoflis exposed for action upon the top lift D of a heel E ofa shoe of thewomenS type.) I Adj ustably confronting the working portion of thewheelBis a faceplate F, the H latter-"being verticallydisposed and against which the top lift D rests when the knifeB is activethereon for the trimming of such lift by the knife. i
-On the head right 10 carrying at its upperend a container 11 for liquid. staining and from the bottom of said'containe'r leads a feed tube; 12, the latter being connected with acurved brush stock 13*c'arrying a brush tip .14, the latter beingfpreferably made from rubber and is fastened in plaoe through themediuin of a set screw 15, the tip '14 being formed with ,of the machine is an'up r an applicator. tongue 16 ontowhich is del'ivered the'liquid staining from a feed pas sage'17, the latter. communicative through the port 18 with the stock 13 and this tongue 16 plays against the trimmededge. 19. of the toplift D of theheel E subsequent to the trimmingfthereof by thek nifdB so that duringthe trimming operation" of said top lift'its trimmed edge 19 will be stained in a manner as will be understandable from Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings.
The top lift D of the heel E is brought into position to rest against the face plate F,'
see Figure 1,.immediately beneath the knife B and the working of this wheel causes the trimming of the top lift D when the latter is brought into the path thereof and this trimming is continued by the turning of the heel upon the face plateF. Simultaneously with this'op'eration the applicator tongue 16 which carries liquid stainingwill apply iclhe latter to the trimmed top lift D of the eel. k
Immediately beneath the tongue 16 is'a' trap 20 for catching all drippings and excess liquid staining during the operation of the beveling and trimming machine.
' The stock 13 which forms the feed throat from the feed pipe 12 has its flow regulated by a regulating valve 21 to control the feed of the liquid staining from the container 11 therefor. This container 11 has a remova- 5 ble cover or lid 22.
It is contemplated Within the scope of the present invention to employ a pump attached to the trap, the pump being not shown so that the drippings received by the trap can be forced back to the original container for the stainer.
What is claimed is 1. The combination With a heel trimming machine having a trimming knife, of an attachment comprising a container for liquid staining, a support for the container and carriedby the machine, means arranged in juxtapositionto the knife for delivering the liquidstaining to the-top lift of a heel When trimmed by the knife, means for delivering the liquidstaining from the container to said first named means, means for regulating the How oftheliquid staining to the first named means, and a trap, located beneath said first 5 named means for catching, drippings of liquid. staining from said first named means;
-' 2. The combination with a heel trimming machine having a trimming'knife, of an attachment comprising a containerfor liquid 3 staining, a support for the container and carried by the machine, means arranged in juxtaposition tothe knife for delivering the liquid stainingtothe top lift of a heel When trimmed by the knife, means for delivering v the liquid. staining, from the container to said first named means, means for regulating the flow. of the liquid staining-to the first named means, a trap located beneath said first named means for catching drippings of, liquid staining from first named means, and a flexible applicator tongue associated with the first named means and engageable Withthe heel lift at its edge.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature;
EARLE CHAPMAN PEART.
