This invention relates to devices for washam aware that there are many of ortable clothes washing machines operated y power,and I am aware that there are certain types ofdish washing machines which 'are not portable.

An ob ection to'the portable t pe of clothes washing machines is that it is diflicult to fill them and to empty them.. In some cases they can be filled with a hose and in some cases the Water can be drained into a pail through an outlet in the bottom, and in other cases diifer'' 'ent types of suction devices are used emptying them.

This invention relates to the type of tubs use for

known as set tubs which as ordinaril are rectangular in shape when viewe from the top, and which are setin position. Such tubs are usuall fastened to the walland as part of their equipment there are hot and cold water faucets, the water from which goes into the tub.

Many tubs have outlets at the rear-or in a corner, and some have them at the middle ofthe bottom.

The purpose of this invention is to pro vide a power washer associated with a per-;

manentlyfixed set tub having a water inlet, and an outlet at the center of the bottom for an ordinary plug so that the tub can beused for hand washing if desired, combined with a certain type of outlet through which the power drive shaft operates.

For the purpose of converting this tub into a power washing machine, I provide a special .form of packing box which extends down from the central outlet and having preferably in one side a clean out opening and in the other side a waste pipe connection which connects .with a waste'pip'e having a shut off valve. Preferably the handle of this valve extends out near the front under thetub within easy reach of the operator.

I also provide power means which gives to a vertical drive shaft a reciprocating motion. This 'drive shaft extends-up-through a water tight-bearing and terminates at v point a little below the bottom or floor o;

The means to give the drive shaft a reciprocating motion as shown includes a motor L which may be of the electric type and has a shaft 50 keyed to which is an eccentric 51 around which is'an eccentric strap 52 which by means of an arm 53 engages crank arm 33 of shaft C, thus iving it motion. At the bottom 84, I show any kind of elastic packing 86 held in place by the packing nut which is screwed upward into 84 and has a bearing hole 87 through which passes the shaft 89 which terminates in a squared end 88 at a point below the tub bottom 13.

While I prefer to use a set tub with a rectangular floor, I may use a set tub 90 of the shape shown in Fig. 4.

The front of this tub is semi-circular and the back where it is attached to wall 91 is straight. 92 is a water inlet and 93 is a centrally disposed flush outlet from which extends a-waste pipe 95 having a shut-off valve 96 which can be operatedby a handle 97 proximate the front of the tub.

It is obvious that the rotor might be more or less permanently fixed to the drive shaft if desired. This fixing of the rotor to the drive shaft may occur if, as shown in Fig. 5, the metal of the hole 44 and the metal of the outside of shaft 30 are of steel, iron or other easily rusted material and they rust together or if the fit between these parts is a drive fit instead of a sliding fit.

I claim: 1. The combination with a set tub having a water inlet and a flush outlet at substantially the center of its rectangular bottom; of a drive shaft packing box which extends down from said outlet and has in one side, a clean out opening and at another side a waste pipe connection and at the bottom; athreaded shaft bearing hole a shaft bearing screwed up into such shaft bearing hole, said bearing having an annular mercury cup around its top; a drive shaft which extends up through the shaft bearing and terminates in a slotted end below the tub bottom; an annular skirt which is fixed to the drive shaft and extends down into the mercury cup; a waste pipe which extends from said packing box connection and has a shut off valve; and a detachable clothes washing rotor having blades and having a hub which extends down below the hub bottom and engages the end of the drive shaft; together with means to give the drive shaft a'reciprocating motion.

2. The combination with a set tub having a water inlet and a flush outlet at substantially the center of its rectangular bottom; of a drive shaft packing box which extends down from said outlet and has in one side, a clean out opening and at another side a waste pipe connection and at the bottom, a shaft bearing around the top of which 'is an annular mercury cup; a drive shaft which extends up through the shaft bearing and terminates in a slotted end below the tub bottom; an annula'r skirt which is fixed to the drive shaft and extends down into the mercury cup; a waste pipe which extends from said packing box connection and has a shut off valve; and a detachable clothes washing rotor having blades and having a hub which extends down below the tub bottom and engages the end of the drive shaft; together with means to give the drive shaft a reciprocating motion. 3. The combination with a set tub having a water inlet and a flush outlet at substantially the center of its rectangular bottom; of a drive shaft packing box which extends down from said outlet and has in one side, a waste ipe connection and at the bottom, a shaft caring around the top of which is an annular fnercury cup; a drive shaft which extends up through the shaft bearing and terminates below the tub bottom; an annular skirt which is fixed to the drive shaft and extends down into the mercury cup; a waste pipe which extends from said packin box connection and has a shut off valve w hich has a handle proximate the front of the tub and a detachable clothes washing rotor having blades and having a hub which extends down belowv the tub bottom and engages the end of the drive shaft; together wit means to give I the drive shaft motion.
