Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. BILL, OF CUYAHOGA FALLS, OHIO.
ARRANGEMENTOF FEED-WATER PIPES IN THE BEDS OF STEAM-ENGINES.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 18,532, dated November 8, 1857.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY IV. BILL, of Cuyahoga Falls, in the county of Summit, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Arrangement of Feed -Water Pipes in the Bed of the Engine, Designed Mainly for Heating IVater for the Supply of Steam-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and vexactdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in making the engine frame or bed hollow, in conducting the supply water for the boiler by one or more pipes through the chambers thus created in the frame or bed, and in heating the water thus conducted by discharging the exhaust steam through said chamber and around said water pipe or pipes.
In the accompanying drawings, No. 1 exhibits a side View, No. 2 plan, No. 3 cross section and No. 4 end View of engine frame or bed. Letters A, A, A, A, hollow frame, C, C, C, C, C, C, interior water pipe or pipes, D, where exhaust steam escapes from the cylinder into the chamber of frame 02 end of interior pipe, Where pipe is attached or connected to convey supply water to the boiler, G exhaust.
No. 5 exhibits a perspective View of the engine frame or bed, with steam cylinder and other parts in their places. Letters A, A, indicate parts of the hollow frame, E connection of force pump with interior water pipes, G exhaust pipe, and o2 end of interior water pipe where pipe is attached to con- Vey supply water to boiler.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, I would state that I am aware that, steam, and water passages have been made through the frame and bed of a steam engine. This I do not claim. But
Vhat I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Making the bed of a steam engine hollow, and so as to form a steam chamber, and arranging the feed water pipes in or through said chamber, so that the exhaust steam in the chamber shall heat the feed water in the pipes as herein set forth.
Cuyahoga Falls O. July 1857.
HENRY WV. BILL.
