' maximum amount ot-v the dandruff is drawn into the openings. I p A further object is to provide a hair cleanmg device inlwhic h the teeth are arranged to separate the hair in such a manner that the strands are thoroughly cleaned by reason of i the movement of the air passing through the openings in the'teeth, and in which the teeth are further adapted to loosen dandruff, etc. adhering to the hair throughout its entire length and depth.
A further object is to provide a hair cleaningdevice which, while primarily designed for the purpose of removin dandruif, dust,
etc., is equally well adapted to remove any loose hair. e e e A further object is to provide a hair cleanpose in that it may be employed as a blower for drying the hair, scalp, etc.
A further object is to provide a device of the type described in which sharp corners and the like have been reduced to a minimum thereby providing a device which mayv be easily cleaned. a A v Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel 10 features ofthe invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings forming part of this application in which Figure 1 is a sectional View taken along the line 11;of Figure 2,
Figure 1A is asectional View the line 1A. 1A of Figure 2, Y
Figure 2 is a front elevation of my inventlOII," i i I Figure .3is a rear taken along elevation of a portion of 1929. Serial No. 381,775.
the device shown in Figure 2 and illustratingthe device used in connection with a re movable cap or cover,
Figured is an end elevation of the device shownin Figure 3,
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional detail view showing the manner in which the cap or cover is removably attached to the device, Figure 6 is an end elevation of a slightly modified form of my invention, and
'Figure 7 is a: further modification of my device. i h
In carrying out my invention I make use of a hollow body portion 1 provided'withan integral shank portion 2. Theshank 2 is also hollow and is preferably-connected with a flexible tube 3 which is operatively connected with a vacuum device, not shown. The body portion 1 is provided with a plurality. of teeth 4 havingoneof their edges provided with openings 5 throughout. their entire length. The teeth are provided with side walls ti and edges 7' disposed angularly with respect to the edges'provided with the openings. V
The ends of the teeth may be formed asat 8, see Figure 2, and slightly rounded as at 9 in Figure 1. The opening 5 communicate with the opening. in the body portion 1 which is in communication with the openings in the shank 2 and the tube 3. The walls of the teeth 4 are preferably arranged in parall'el relation. 1
In operation the teeth of the hair cleaning device are moved through the hair in sub: stantially the same manner as the ordinary comb is used when'combing the hair. The points of the teeth tend to loosen any dandrufi adhering tothe scalp and the movement of'the airthrough the device, which must of necessitypass through the openings 1 in the teeth, draws theloosened dandrufi,
that the openings in the teeth provide a minimum amount of restriction as when long hair and the like is passing through the openings.
The teeth, in being arranged in parallel relation and in proper spaced relation, tend to separate the hair in thin strands which are thoroughly cleaned by reason of the movement of air through the openings 5. Any dandruff and the like which is adhering to the hair will be loosened by the edges of the teeth. It will also be seen that when the points of the teeth are moved over the scalp the dandrufi' loosened by the teeth ment of air between the teeth, The cover may be advantageously employed when using the device in cleaning relativel short hair. When the cover is placed in position and the open edges of the teeth presented to the scalp, the moving air must of necessity pass relatively close to the scalp. The cover may be made of relatively thin material which permits a certain amount of flexing of the end portions 11. Each end 11 may be provided With a recess 12 for receiving lugs 13 associated with a pair of the teeth 4. The construction is such that the cover may be slipped into position and the lugs 13 will firmly hold the cover in position while the device is bein used.
In Figure 6 have shown a slightly modified form of my construction in which the edges 4' and 7 are tapered toward each other with respect to the parallel sides 14 and 15. In Figure 7 the teeth are rounded as at 16. The operation of each form is, of course, substantially identical, In either form the cross sectional area of the opening in the shank 2 and the body portion 1 should preferably be e ual to or greater than the total cross sectiona area of the openings in the teeth, I claim:
