rlhis invention relates to a strap end attaching device for an extension device for a-wrist watch strap orthe like; and has for its object to provide a simple attachment for f securing the extension device to the strap.
A still furtherrobject of the invention is theprovision of a tip with resilient trunnions extending from its ends, the parts of which are formed of sheet metal.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:

Fig. 14 is a sectional view on line 14--14 of Fig. 3, showing the trunnions as engagingk the side walls of the channel section. Y
In the use of wrist watch straps for securing wrist watches to the wrist of the wearer, it is found desirable to provide an extension device'which may provide an eective elongation ofthe strap for removing the same fromthe wrist of the wearer without detaching and `separating any ofthe parts ofthe assembly; and in order to Vprovide a maximum extension I have combined both` the folding and subsequent sliding of the parts and sostiffened the `sliding parts-that they will not readily become bent or cramped to detrimentally affect their sliding action and at the same time l have used the Vstiifening means for limiting the movement of the parts one on the other and I have also'fformed a tip out of sheet metal with sheet metal trunnions yieldingly extending therefrom' and engaging openings in the opposite side walls of the channel sectionl to adjustably connect the same thereto;- and the followingv is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this` invention illustrating the preferred means by which Vthese advantageous results maybe accomplished:
i With reference tothe drawings, 1.5 desige i nates one end section of the'device formed with a pairv of ears 16 to receive between them i the tip17 of the strap part 18y to connect the same thereto in a hinging relation'.f The `0pposite end section` 19 is. generally channel shape in cross section having atop 20, side walls 21 with a plurality yof openings 22 therein for Vadjustment purposes hereinafter described.`
An intermediate section is formed of two slidable parts 23 and 24 with the edges-25 of the part 23A rolled over the edges of the part 24 so that the parts are slidably held Vtogether.- Ribs 26 are raised from the surface of part 24which form corresponding depres-y sions .orgrooves 27 havingend walls 29 in the opposite surface'of this section to receive Vdetents 28'cut and raised from the stock of the section'23to `extend into these spaced'. grooves 27 and guide andlimit the sliding otherfby the engagement of ,the detents 28. contactingA with-the end walls 29 ofv the grooves which terminate short of the `end of the section 24. i Y The part 24 of'thisintermediate section is hinged to thechanned or .end section 19 by `movement oftheparts 23 and 24 one on the ,i Y y means of trunnions 30 extending into openings 31 while the part 23 of the intermediate section is hinged to the opposite end section 15 by a pin 32 extending thru suitable hinge Veyes 33 and 34 on the respective parts.
n These sections may be folded Ione' upon the othervinto the Ychannel section 19 and AheldV in folded position by the spaced portions and 47 on the edge ofrthesection 24,4snapping Y beneath the tipjy 17j, whereby' the engagement is at spaced' points adjacent* the pivots tov more firmly hold the parts,in\-fol.ded,posiV tion. The top or'channel section 19 is provided with a ingerpiecej53 to assist infun; clasping the parts to permit unfolding of the sections byfahinging action afterfwhich the slidablei.parts-23` and 24 `of `the `intermediate section may be moved'to further` extendY the Y eifectivelength ofthe devicef y Y l The strap part 34 isladjustably connected toctlre channel sectionf'19l by atip 35`which is formed from a sheet stockblanln Yas illustrat'ed in Fig. 111,'.folded to provide a part 37 forfextending lalong one surface ofthe-strap and a part 38 extending alongthe otherfsur# ofthe-strap, whichparts are-v. held in ing openings when forcedoutwardly, a spring between the said trunnions forcing them out*-l wardly, and abutments bent up from the edges of only onev of said walls and engaging the shoulders of said trunnions to limit their outward movement. c f

In this manner a tip formed all 'of'th'e sheet metal may Vbei linexpensively A'constructed whichris extremely thinand 'by which the resilientlyV mounted'trunnions 42 may bead# justab'lyl secured to` the` diHe-renitly spaced openings 22 inthe channelsection 19 for'ad# justinfgj the effective lengthl of the strap when 1in folded position. Ittwillbe apparent that? thisI tip Vmay be used in "connection,l with other: constructions than the extension devices as here disclosed and it will'be understood'that. aireference to an extension' device so far as the tipA is concerned iis kmerely a reference for illustraf tion purposes. w
The foregoing description is directed sole- 1y' towards the construction illustrated, but I Y desirefit to' be understood that Il reserve the privilege of resortingto allthe' mechanical changes to which the device'issusceptible, the invention being defined andlimitedonly by the termsvof the appended claims.
