IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING T ABLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 185,099, dated December 5, 1876; application tiled October 4, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR GRAY, of Westbrook, in the county ot' Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and usei'ul Improvements in Folding Adjustable Tables; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ot' this specitication, in which- Figure l is an end view. Fig. 2 is a detail, showing the manner in which the legs and top are connected; and Fig. 3 is a detail, showing the grooves and notches in the piece a.

Thepurpose of my invention is to produce a table easily adjustable and portable.

The table consists of two partsthe legs and the shelf or top-which are separable. The shelf may be made of any convenient size and should be of a form to admit of having securely attached to its under side two pieces of wood, a, or other suitable material, which, when attached, should be parallel. On the inner side of the pieces a are made'the grooves b, having the notches c c, (see Fig. 3,) and the opening h. These notches may be two or more in number, and variously situated, accordin g lo the degree of adj ustability required, each pair of notches being placed equally distant from the opening h or center of the piece a. The legs are the common folding legs, (see Fig. 1,) the inner legs having the brace. From the extremities of the rods connecting the upper ends of each pair of legs project pins or dogs e, made of proper size to lit the grooves and notches in the piece a.

To place-thetable in position for use, the pins e are inserted into the grooves through the opening h, and placedlin the corresponding notches on either side ot' the opening.

If the table is to be lowered, the pins are placed in the notches next outward from the center, and so on. The legs may be iirmly fixed in any position, if required, by using a set-screw instead of the pivot Z.

The table so constructed is easily adjustable and can be packed in very small compass, the legs being folded together and placed under the shelf, the pins upon side remaining in the grooves, if desired.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The folding adjustable table, combining the detachable folding legs, the pin e, and the top, with the grooved notched pieces a, having the opening h, constructed substantially as shown, and for the purposes set forth.
