yhandle is reciprocated relative to the brushl to cause the bristles to move toward and awayfrom the gums. The brush may be held stationary either by pressure against the teeth or bythe lips.'
Other objects, novel features and advantages oi this invention will be apparent from the following specification Vand accompanying drawings, whereiny Fig. 1 is a rear view of one embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a front view, and Fig.4 is Aan enlarged section onthe line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Y .u A handle 10 has two rods or the like 11 prov jecting from one end and on the rods is mounted a slide 12 having passages through which the rods extend. Ther slide 12 is provided with a plurality of longitudinal rows fof bristles 13. A head 14 is mounted on the ends of the rodsf11 by means of screws 15 having threaded engagement with the-rods 11. A plurality of undulating bars lextend from the handle 10 to the head 14 between adjacent rows of spindles.V Relative movement of the slide and handle is productive of transverse movement of thebristles due to l the engagement of the undulations of the vbars 16 with the bristles.
Thebrush above describedf'is utilized in the usual way to ybrush the teeth. Relative movement of theslide and handle will occur whenever the slide is heldl stationary, either due to friction of the bristles against `the teeth or by engagementwith the lips. Also,
of the bristles kvarious vmodiications of the invention are atthe end Vof each usual brushing stroke,the handle may be moved beyond the'movement` of the slide. rThe bristles are thuscaused to e y vibrate toward and yaway fromthe gums Vin the; manner suitedk to cleanse the, crevices lbetween the teeth. i
A Worn brush may easily be renewed by l merely detachingthe head 14V andslidingtle wornfb-rush ofi' the rods 11.,` A new ybrush may thenbe slidonto the rods and the head replaced.' y i Y embodiment illustrative of many forms of;
described structure is but one' the invention and it is to be understood that .l
contemplated within the scope of the inventionasd'efined by the appended claims. s, I-claim'zgrl v V Adevice of thecharacter described coini prisingA ah'andlea member slidably lsupported by said handle and vprovided with,longi-.y
tudinal, rows of bristles,and actuators carried by sald handlefor engagement by-said bristles to move the same transversely upon relative movement of said handle and member, said actuators having oblique portions engageable by said bristles. v
2. A device of the character described comprising a handle, a member slidably supported by said handle and provided with longitudinal rows of bristles,-and undulating members extending from said handle between adjacent rows ofy bristles lfor transversely vibratingsaid bristles upon relative reciprocation of said ,handle and member.
3. A device of the character described comprising a handle, amember slidably and removably supported by said handle, said member being provided withlongitudinal rows of fbristles, and actuators carried by said handle for engagement by said bristles to move the same transversely upon relative movement of said handle and member, said actuators having oblique portions engageable bysaid bristles.
4.A A device of the character described comprising a handle, a member slidably and removably supported by said handle, said member being provided with longitudinal rows of bristles, and undulating members extendy ing from said handle between adjacent rows of bristles for transversely vibrating said bristles upon relative reciprocation of said handle and member.
5. A device of the character described comprising a handle, a pair of rods carried by said handle, a member slidably sup orted by said rods and provided with'longituinalfmws of bristles, Land undulating members extend- 1 ing from said handle between adjacent rows'- of bristles. l n
6. A device of the character described comprising a handle, a pair of rods carriedebyw;v said handle, a member slidably supported byk 15 said rods and provided with longitudinal-y rows of bristles, a head carried bythe yfreeA end'sfof Vsaidrods, and undulating members extending from said handle between adjacent rows of bristles. y 30, 7. A device of the character described comprising a handle, a pair of rods carried by said handle, a member slidablysupported by said rodsl and provided :withv longitudinal rows of bristles, a head detachably supported bythe fre'endsV of said rods, and undulating members extending from said .handle betweenadjacent rows of bristles.
8.' A deviceof thecharacter described comprising a handle, a pair of rods attached at, agone end to said handle, a member slidably supported bysaidy rods and provided with longitudinal rows'of bristles, a head attached i to the other'end's ofsaid rods,l and wavy'wires extending,` from the handleto the headbe- 35,. tween 'rowsv of bristles;
Intestimony-'whereofl have .signed my name toy this specification.
