. IMPROVEMENT IN DESKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,020, dated December 5, 1876; application filed October 30, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ERNEST N. Donnie, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Table-Desk, of which the following is a specification':
Figure 1 is a side view of atable to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same opened up for use, taken through the line a; as, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved desk attachment for the tops of tables, bureaus, and other articles of furniture, which shall be so constructed as to be very convenient for use when opened, and when closed shall give no indication of the presence of a desk.
The invention will first be described'in conholes E is hinged the edge of a desk-leaf, F,
which, when the top D and its set of pigeonholes E are turned up into position for use, rests upon the front bar of the table-frame C, so as to be in position for use, as shown in Fig. 2.
The free edge of the leaf F is designed to be secured to the front part of the set of pigeouholes E by a lock or other convenient fastening, so as to keep the contents of said pigeon-holes E in place when the top is lowered, and when it is being lowered and raised. The top D is designed to be provided with a hinged brace or braces, in the manner of a trunk-lid to hold it in place when raised.
1 have described the invention as being applied to a table-top; but it may also be applied to the top of achest of drawers, or any other suitable article of furniture provided with a case, with equal facility and advantage.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with a lid, D, hinged to the rear of a frame, 0, and provided with pigeonholes E E upon its under surface, of theleaf F, hinged to the lowest pigeon-hole partition, substantially as and for the'purpose specified.
