In clothes cleaning establishments and in tailoring concerns considerable annoyance and inconvenience is frequently encountered by the use of the ordinary wire clothes hangers which consist of a hook in the middle portion of two inclined wires connected by a cross wire which serves as a support for the trousers of a suit of clothes. The difiiculties encountered with the use of the ordinary wire cross rod hangers is occasioned by the slipping of the trousers oif of the trouser wire or rod which is usually of small diameter and either polished or covered with black enamel or the like so that the trousers,

' coat and vest which are engaged on the hanger come into direct contact with the wires forming the hanger and are sometimes soiled due to the fact that the hangers are not clean.

' To obviate the above conditions, the improved device of this invention relates to a garment hanger protector or cover cut or stamped from'a unitary sheet of paperor the like and adapted to be conveniently folded over the body portion of a wire coat hanger or the like to not onl protect the garment hun on the, main portion of the hanger but to a 0rd a spring flap positioned within the protector and over the trouser rod to afford a retaining or clamping means wherebya pair of trousers when engaged on the hanger is prevented from slipping off of the hanger.

It is an object of this invention to provide a unitary protector for a' coat hanger with said protector having a spring flap forpreventing garments from slipping off of. the hanger. It is furthermore an object of this invention to provide an improved protector for garment hangers or the like, said protector consistingof a form adapted to be shipped or kept in developed condition until ready for use and which may be readily folded to completely cover the body portion of a wire hangers and the like, said protector adapted 1 to be constructed of a single sheet of paper which may be conveniently folded to enclose the body portion of the garment hanger and afford a spring flap Within the protector to prevent slippage of garments 011 of the hanger. As shown on the drawings:

The improved garment hanger protector is adapted to be constructed out of heavy paper or other suitable material and originally takes the form of a fiat form or blank which may be conveniently handled or carried in stock until ready for use. The improved protector forms may be carried in stacks and removed one at a time to be folded over and engaged The improved protector comprises a main or front section 1 having the shape of a five-sided polygon having two long inclined edges 2, two inclined short edges 3 and a bottom edge 4 adjoining the lower ends of the short inclined edges 3. Cut or struck inwardly from the main protector section 1 is a longitudinally directed spring flap 5, the lower'margin of which is integrally formed with the front section 1 and is rolled inwardly to form a rounded bight portion or bead 6.

Integrally formed on each of the short inclined edges 3 of the front section is a flap or wing section 7 having a slot 8 out near the end thereof. Integrally formed on one of the longer inclined edges 2 of the front section 1 is a back flap or wing 9 having'retaining fingers or tongues 10 and 11 struck therefrom. Integrally formed on the other long inclined edge 2 of the front section 1 is 7 another large flap or back wing section 12 table and a wire clothes hanger is thereon in the position illustrated .in dotted provided with a slot 13 and having struck or cut therefrom a hook finger or tongue 14.

The improved coat hanger protector is adapted to be used in connection with the ordinary wire coat hangers which consist of a wire bent to afford a hook 15 which connects two inclined wire shoulders 16 on which a vest and coat of a suit are adapted to be supported. The two inclined wire shoulders 16 are integrally connected by a trouser supporting wire or connecting rod 17 over which a pair of trousers or the hke is adapted to be removabl hun When 1t is esired to use one of the improved protectors a protector form such as is lllustrated in Figure 1 is laid fiat upon a placed lines in said Figure 1. The spring flap or retaining member 5 is nowdeflected or bent out of the plane of the front protector section 1 and is rolled along the margin where it 'oins the section 1 to form the bead 6 which a rds front section 1 of the protector to ban over the lower portion of the front section an over the spring flap 5 as clearly illustrated in Figure 4.

The back flap or wing 9 of the protector form is now rolled over along the line 2 after which the second back flap or wing 12 is rolled over the other line 2 into the position illustrated in Figure 3. The tongue or finger 10 struck from the back section 9 is now engaged through the slot 13 of the back section 12 to hold said sections connected one to the other and to enclose the trouser retaining flap and the body portionof the'wire coat hanger. The two end flaps 7 are now bent or rolled over along the short inclined lines 3 and the retaining linger or tongue 11 of the back sections 9 is engaged through the slot 8 in one of said flaps 7 while the retaining finger or tongue 14 of the back section 12 is engaged through the slot 8 of the second flap 7 The body portion of the wire coat hanger is thus completely enclosed within the paper;

A vest and coat forming a portion of a suit may now be engaged over the protector without coming into direct contact with the wires forming a part of the coat hanger. It will be noted that the improved one-piece protector form may be conveniently-and rapidly bent into form to enclose the body por-. tion of a wire clothes hanger with only thehook portion of the clothes hanger exposed. 1

By this improved protector device garments engaged on the protector are not brought into contact withv any of the wire members forming a partpf the body of the wire coat hanger thereby eliminating any possibility of garments becoming soiled from dirt of any kind which may be on the body portion of the coat hanger or from rust or the like. The improved protector not only affords a covering for the wire clothes hanger but protects clothes engaged thereon and furthermore affords a resilient retaining member inthe flap 5 which serves to resiliently clamp or hold garments against slipping off of the protector when engaged through the opening 18 and over the lower portion of the front sec- Eion of the protector and over the resilient i s illustrated in Figure 2, the improved protector blank or form has the outer face of the front section 1 thereof provided with a section or space 20 which may be used for labels or advertising means.

Attention is also called to the fact that the improved protector is provided with the short inclined sections 3 to afford a pocket for not only enclosing the body portion of the garment hanger but in addition affording a reta ining enclosure preventing the hanger from falling out of the protector after the protector form has been folded into form ready for use.

It will of course be understood that many changes may be made and that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention and it is therefore not purposed limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the scope of the appended claims.

I claim as my invention: 1. The combination with a clothes hanger,

of a form folded over upon itself to com-' pletely enclose the body portion of the. hanger, and means formed on the form and engaged between the walls thereof to form a garment supporting spring bead and a flap to clamp garments engaged over the bead against the inner surface of the form.

2. The combination with a garment hanger, of a protector removably engaged thereon, and a spring flap struck inwardly from said protector and engaged over one of the members of the hanger to afford a garment retaining member to clamp garments supported over said hanger member against the inner surface of the protector to prevent slippage of garments off of the hanger.

3. The combination with a garment hanger, of a protector folded over the body portion of the hanger to completely enclose the same, and means struck inwardly from the protector and disposed between the walls thereof leaving an opening for the insertion of a garment on the hanger and serving as a retaining means for holding the garment in position against accidentally falling or slipping off of the hanger.

4. A garment hanger cover comprising a front section, a retaining flap struck therefrom and disposed adjacent the inner surface thereof, back sections integrally connected with the front section and adapted to be rolled over in overlapping relation one with the other to form a back section for the pro- .tector to enclose said retaining flap, and flap members also integrally formed on the front section adapted to be folded over against the back sections, said rolled over portions of the cover affording rounded beads for the support of garments to obviate the development of creases in the garments.

5. A garment hanger protector comprising a front section, a spring flap integrally connected therewith and bent downwardly adjacent the inner surface thereof, and a plurality of wing sections integrally connected with said-front section and interlocked in overlapping relation to form a rear section to enclose the resilient flap between the front and the rear sections of the protector.

6. A garment hanger protector comprising a unitary form adapted to be folded over on itself to provide a hood to enclose the body portion of a garment hanger and prevent the hanger from falling therefrom, and a spring member forming an integral part of the form and projecting downwardly between the walls of the hood to resiliently clamp garments against the inner surface of the hood. 7. The combination with a garment hanger having a trouser supporting member forming a part thereof, of a protector adapted to be folded around the body portion of the garment hanger, and a spring retaining member carried by the protector on the interior thereof and adapted to be engaged over the trouser supporting member of the hanger to cover the same and serve as a retaining means for obviating accidental slippage of garments off of the portion of the protector which covers said member.

8. The combination with a garment hanger, of a protector adapted to be removably engaged on the body portion of the hanger and comprising a one-piece form adapted to be folded to form a. hood for enclosing and locking the body portion of the hanger there in, and means struck from the form and projecting downwardly within the hood to engage over a portion of the hanger to act as a retaining means to clamp garments against the inner surface of the hood to prevent slippage of garments from the hood and hanger.
