The invention concprns a yarn spooling device adapted to simultaneously'receive a yarn at any running velocities at one side and deliver it uninterrupcedly on its other'side even in cases of stoppage of the receiving device, as described in my co-pending application Ser. 393,737, from which this present application is derived. This application is a division of my co-pending application filed September 19, 1929, Serial Number 393,737.
The essential feature of the invention consists therein, that two cores or drums are rotatably held in bearings on one of their ends so as to have axes crossing each other in different planes, and at least one of said drums is driven, so that a yarn wound round both drums in spiral windings from the bearing end proceeds along'the drums axially and is free for being axially drawn off on the other end. L r I By inserting this device in a yarn running from a spool or from a machine to any other machine or treating device I have the possibility of continuously feeding the last named machine even in the case that a slowing down or a stoppage of the first named machine or a yarn break or any other reason enforces slowmg down or stopping the two storing drums for some time, as'the yarn contained on said drums in a precisely ordered state runs out over the top of the drums without any obstruction. Inversely, if the second machine slows down, the yarn windings on the storing drums are augmented without hindering the drawing off. For constantly driving thestoring drums, a speed is used which corresponds to that of the machine to be fed, and for augmenting the number of windings in any of the mentioned cases, a higher speed is used, for which reason a speed changing gear is provided in the storing drum drive.

, The spindle 3a is provided with aconical driving pulley 7 and with an empty running pulley 7a, and a belt 8 operating on said pulleys is enclosed in a swingable, fork 9 which serves for shifting said belt to larger or smaller diameters of said pulley 7 or to said pulley.

A first yarn storing drum 10 is fastened to the spindle 3a," and a second drum 11 is rotatably held on a bolt 12, which in thetop view is parallel to said spindle 311 but in the front view is arranged under an angle with respect to the latter. The head endsof both drums 10, 11 are without supporting bearings, so as to be free for drawing 011' a yarn wound round them to the guide 6 and swift 2.
This device operates as follows: Suppose the spool 5 may contain unrefined yarn, and during winding on the swift said yarn shall be refined by cutting out bad pieces or knots, knitting together broken portions, and the like. The yarn is wound several times round the drums 10, 11 and said windings are knitted together by the yarn end. The spindle 3a is then caused to make say two hundred revolutions. Thereby the first windings act as a belt drivingthe second drum 11 from the first drum 10 and travelling axially over the drums in consequence of their axes crossing each other in different vertical planes. This kind of belt draws with it the following yarn, so that the latter surrounds both drums in a number of windings corresponding to the revolutions performed by the spindle 3a and serving as the desired yarn store.
The first knitted windings are then cut off, and the free yarn end is guided through the guide 6 and fastened to the swift 2.
The machine is then started for winding the yarn on the swift 2, and the storing drums 10,11 are driven with such a velocity that the number of yarn windings on them remains essentially unaltered. If any manipulation on the yarn running from the spool 5 becomes necessary, the drums 10, 11 are stopped by aid of the idle pulley without interferring with the uninterrupted winding the yarn on the swift 2. Thereafter the drums 10, 11 are again started, and with advantage at an augmented velocity for again augmenting the number of yarn windings which has been diminished during the stoppage. Y i

A device for forming a yarn store, comprising in combination a core held in bearings on one end means for rotating said core, means for leading a yarn to the end of said core near said bearings, a second core,-held in hearings on one end and having an axis crossing that of said first core in a difierent plane, and adapted to be included in the yarn windings surrounding said first core, for axially displacing said yarn wound on said core from said one end to the other end, and means fori drawing off the yarn axially on said other en In witness whereof I afiix my signature.
