My lmproved presslng element is designed primarily for .use with pressing machines of the head and buck type in whicha pressing head or movable buck ismovable toward and "from a fixed buck 11 which maybe supported on a neck12-which rises from a'frame 13 of the pressing machine. The pressing head or movable buck 10 is carried bya suitable-yoke'li whichispivotedat 15.to 'aystandard 16 which rises from the pressin chine frame. The yoke 14.15 operatefbyn motor 17 through a bell crank '18 ,andconnecting link 19. All of "this construction is of the conventional type well .understoodby those skilled in the art.
The pressing head 10 includes apressing face 21, which may be formedof sheet metal,
and a body portion 22 also formed of sheet metal. The body portion 22 is formed with a depressed channel .23 extending along the center line and terminating short of the ends of the body portion- The edges ofth'e body portion are .bent downwardly and provided V with flanges 25 which contact with theback of the face plateQ21. The face plate 21 is secured tovthe body portion 22 by turning the marginal edges 26 around the :flanges 25, as

'The'bag 30 forms a lining 'for the heating chamber ofthepressing head .10. This bag 30 is fluid tight andmay be constructed from soft sheet metal, such as copper, bysecuring a top plate 31 which is formed to lit the body 'portion22, to a.1ower,plate 32 which is formed Eto fitth'e contour of the face plate21. These plates 31 and 32 may be secured'together along n or their edges by any suitable means such as by sweating. If the bag is constructed of soft sheet metal it is immaterial whether the metal becomes warped during the process by which the plates 31 and 32 are secured together. Any warping which results at this time will be unimportant because of the fact that the bag is of soft material which will readily adapt itself to the shape of the pressing element in which it is enclosed.
The chamber formed between the body portion 22 and face plate 21 in which the bag 30 is enclosed provides a heating chamber for the pressing element. Heating fluid such as steam is supplied to the bag 30 through suitable means such as a steam pipe 33, which is connected with a source of steam not shown.
A cover plate 35 fits over the top of the depressed channel portion 23 to form a steaming chamber in said depressed channel portion. Suitable means, such as a gasket 36, may be provided between the cover plate 35 and the body portion 22 to prevent the escape of steam between the cover plate and body portion.

Method of assembling The sheet metal pressing element above described is made practical largely through the novel methol by which it is assembled. This method is best understood by reference to Figure 4: of the drawings. The face plate 21 is provided with bent up marginal edges 26. The inner bag 30 or liner is made up of a bottom plate 32 of the same general contour as the back of the face plate 21, and a top plate 31 formed with the same general contour as the lower side of the body portion 22. The plates 31 and 32 are secured together along their edges by suitable means such as sweating. These plates 31 and 32 may be also secured together in a similar manner along the center line of the plates where the depressed channel portion of the top plate contacts with the bottom plate 32.
The body portion 22 is formed with flanges 25 along the marginal edges thereof. No
register with one another.
The sheet metal parts shown in Figure l are. brought together and the bent up edges 26 of the face plate 21 are turned over the flanges 25 of the body portion 22 thus securing the face plate to the body portion and clamping the edges of the bag 30, in position. When the parts are thus secured together the holes 40 are drilled through the body portion 22, bag 30, and face plate 21. Some of these holes are left open to permit the passage of steam from the steam chamber through the face plate when steaming garments. Other of the holes are used to receive fastening means for securing the sheet metal parts together along their center line as previously described.
From the above description it will be apparent that I have provided a pressing element composed entirely of sheet metal parts, designed so as to be strong and rigid, and
economical to assemble due to the novel methof one of said members around the marginal edges of the other of said members; a fluid tight bag within the chamber between the face plate member and the body member; and means for admitting fluid into said bag.
2. A pressing element including a body portion formed with a recess inthebottom side thereof; a fluid tight bag located in said recess; means for admitting fluid tosaid bag; and a face plate mounted on the body portion to close the recess and form a chamber, and to hold the fluid tight bag within said chamber, the face plate being secured in such positionon the body portion by turning the mar- I ginal edges of the face plate around the 1narginal edges of the body portion.
3. As an article of manufacture a pressing. element having a face plate member and a body member spaced apart from the face plate member throughout a portion of its area and secured to the face plate member by turning the marginal edges of one of said meme bers around the marginal edges of the other of said member, and a lining within the chamber formed by said members to prevent the flow of fluid from said chamber through the seam formed by the marginal edges of said members.
4. As an article of manufacture a pressing element including a body portion formed with a chamber therein and having a face plate closing the bottom of said chamber and secured to the body portion by turning the marginal edges of the face plate around the marginal edges of the bodyportion, and a lining Within the chamber for preventing the flow of heating fluid from said chamber through the seam formed at the marginal edges of said body portion.
5. In a pressing machine a pressing element including a body portion formed with a heating chamber and a steaming chamber therein; a face plate closing the open end of the heating chamber and secured to the body portion by turning the marginal edges of the face plate over the marginal edges of the body portion; a fluid tight container substantially filling the heating chamber a cover plate closing the open end of the steaming chamber; and means for admitting fluid to the steaming chamber and to the fluid tight container.

In a pressing machine a pressing element including a body portion formed with a heating chamber and a steaming chamber therein; a face plate closing the open end of the heating chamber and secured to the body portion by turning the marginal edges of the face plate over the marginal edges of the body portion; a container within the heating chamber for holding the heating fluid to prevent the escape of the heating fluid through the seam formed at the marginal edges of the face plate and body portion; a cover plate closing the open end of the steaming chamber; means for securing said cover plate in position; and means to prevent the escape of steam from the joint betweenthe body portion and cover plate.

A pressing element including a face plate; a body portion secured to the face plate at the marginal edges thereof and spaced apart from the face plate throughout a portion of its area to forma heating chamber; a liner in the heating chamber to render the same leak proof; a depressed channel portion .on the body portion forming a recess surrounded by the heating chamber; a cor- I channel portion on the body portion form- V A ing a recess surrounded by the heating chamber; a corresponding depressed channel portion on the liner for the heating chamber; means passing through the liner to secure the depressed channel portion of the body portion to the face plate; a cover plate over the recess to form a steaming chamber; means for admitting fluid to the heating chamber; and means for admitting fluid from the heating chamber to the steaming chamber.
11. A pressing element including a face plate; a body portion secured to the face plate at the marginal edges thereof and spaced apart from the face plate throughout a portion of its area to form a heating chamber; a liner in the heating chamber to render the same leak proof; a depressed channel portion on the body portion and a cover over said channel to form a steaming chamber surrounded by the heating chamber; a corresponding depressed channel portion on the liner for the heating chamber; and means passing through the liner to secure the depressed channel portion of the body portion to the face plate; orifices being provided through the body portion, lining, and face plate, for permitting steam to flow from the steam chamber through plate.
