lsupporting in yan attractive Way articles such as hairpins, in bunches, the articles being readily removable from the display board Without affecting or breaking their bond or sheath. further object is to provide means whereby" a bundle of articles may be suplported firmly on a display board and latching or locking means Which will prevent removal from the board even during rough usage. Other objects and advantages Will appear as the specification proceeds. Y
This invention is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front vieW in elevation of a display board embodying our invention; Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same; Fig. 3 is a side view in elevation of a single hair pin which may be conveniently supported Within our improved display Support; Fig. 4 is n. sectional view, the section being taken as indicated at line 4 of Fig.1; Fig. 5 is a front view of a modified form of display support embodying our invention; and Fig. 6 is a rear vievv of the modified form of device shovvn in Fig. 5.
In the illustrations given 1 represents a .l display board, Which may be of any desirable and attractive shape and formed of any suitable material Such as, for example, Vcardboa rd. Board 1 is preferably provided With a series of longitudinal openings 2. These openings may be formed by slitting the cardboard, or by cutting out strips or sections of the cardboard of any suitable shape or size.
The articles to be displayed, such as, for example, hair pins, are preferably secured in bunches or bundles by means of a Sheath,
the sheath being preferably of a shape and size Which Will enable it to be inserted laterally through the openings 2 in the display board so that a portion Will extend through the opening. Preferably the Sheath is formed of some rigid material -Which Will enable it to be pressedl firmly vagainst the side Walls of anvopening 2, and tted Within thegopening sufficiently tight to secure the Sheath firmly Within the board. Inthe illustration given,v J
the sheathisrepresented as a thin Washerlike member 3. The member 3 has Wide fiat sides 4 which are adapted to engage the side Walls of opening 'or slit 2 and tov be thus securedv firmly in position. Preferably the opening 2is of such length that the member 3 cannot pass completely therethrough. As
shovvn more clearly in Fig. 4, only a portion yof the member'3 extends through and to the rear ofthe display board 1.
In theoperation of the device, a suitable bundle of articles, such as' hair pins, are
passed through a pair` of retaining rings so aS to be confined therein. Preferably in securing the hair pins, the rings 3 are brought into close Vrelation vvith the Waves at the intermediate portions of the hair pins so as to secure theml against longitudinal movement.
The members 3l are then" inserted through openings v2 to support the bundle upon the board 1. To latch the members 3 in position upon the boarda latch barv 5 is inserted through `the opening 6 provided by the portion of the`member'4 which extends through the board 1. y The latcliing b'ar 5 extends along the rear side of the board 1 and is held in engagement With the Washer or Sheath 3 by the pressure exerted byy the -bundle of hair- Vpins Vupon the front face of the board. To
secure the sheath 3 more rigidly in position, it is preferred toemploy' as latch -bar 5 a Spring Wire Whichv Will tendto exert pressure upon the rearj-side of board 1. In the vending of hairpins, va single hairpin hasbeen found to be preferably applicable for use as alatch bar, in that it possesses the quality of resilience. Another advantage is that the purchaser, upon' turning the display board.
about, can examine, as a separate specimen ofthe' hairpins confined in the bundle onthe front sideof the board, the hairpin Which is used as a` latch bar.
When hairpinsof various lengths are displayedupon the board 1, it is preferred to employ asV latching barson the rear side, hairico pins which correspond in length and other characteristics to the bundle of hairpins confined Within the same Washers on the opposite side of theboard. With this arrangement, the display board serves not only as a display of the hairpins .in bulk .or in bundles but also as a .displaylof single liairpins'.
In removing the hairpins from the display board, the pins may be Withdrawn singly throughA` .the Washers.`v 3,1 or` kthe latchingr barsif'may be. Withdrawn. at the rear .side .ot-1
the board, thus permitting removal of the bundles. Individual hairpins may be'readily Withdrawn, as desired, .fronrthe bundles confined Within the Washers.
^ The displayr boardl serves notI onLyJas an attractive meansof.. .displayinggthe hairpins prior. to. sale but. also serves asa .package in W ich the .pins maybe conveniently preserved by the customer :after the purchase..
