This invention relates to the class of animal husbandry and pertains particularly to improvements in weaners, especially weaners for calves.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a calf weaner which will not be uncomfortable for the cow and which will not be likely to injure her in any manner and which at the same time will effectively discourage the advances of the calves so that they will eventually be completely weaned from the mother.

Another object of the invention is to provide a weaning device which is of light construction and which may be easily applied or removed as necessary.

The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 illustrates one of the two members of the present weaner device.

Figure 2 illustrates the other one of the weaner members, being the udder encasing portion of the device.

Figure 3 shows the weaner in applied position.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates generally 6. As shown a relatively long portion of the strap 4 is connected to the edge of the ba 1 and this connection is made between one e ge of the strap and the bag so that when the bag is in position and the ends of the strap are drawn up on either side of the cows body as shown in Figure 3 the strap will lie flat against the cow's body throughout its length. The edge of the bag mouth has secured thereto directly opposite the edge 3 the ends of a pair of straps, each of which is indicated by the numeral 7. i

This edge of the bag to which these straps 7 are attached is indicated by the numeral 8 and constitutes the rear edge of the bag mouth and as shown the straps 7 are relatively close together so that when the bag is in position they may pass between the cows rear legs in the manner shown without causing her discomfort.- Each of these straps also has at its free end a buckle 9.

Associated with the bag 1 and the straps attached thereto is a cloth saddle which is indicated generally by the numeral 10. This saddle as shown is of substantially rcctangular contour and is elongated and when in position rests upon and longitudinally of the cows back as shown in Figure Each end of the saddle 10 has secured thereacross a strap 11, each of the straps being attached to the saddle intermediate its ends as shown so that both ends 12 of each strap are free. These ends 12 of the straps 11 are connected through the buckles 6 and 9 of the straps carried by the bag so that the bag will be securely held in position in the manner shown in Figure 3 and the calves being weaned will be prevented from reaching the udder of the mother cow.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A calf weaner of the character described, comprising a bag to receive the udder of a cow, a strap connected intermediate its ends and along one edge to a portion of the edge of the mouth of the bag, that portion of the strap connected to the bag lying flat against the underside of the cows body, a pair of straps connected to the edge of the mouth of the bag opposite, the point of connection therewith of the first mentioned strap, said pair of straps being relatively closely positioned and extending from the bag edge at substantially right angles thereto to ass rearwardl between the rear legs of t e 00W, a sad 1e to position upon the back of the cow, and straps carried by the saddle for connection with the straps attached to the bag to support the bag in Fosition.
