section 1 by means of hinges 18 or the like, and provided with an adjustable foot board 27. I prefer to attain adjustability in this foot board 27 by means of pins 27 thereon adapted to be seated in sockets 25 whereby the foot board 27 may be adjustably positioned toward and from the seat section 1 to accommodate the occupant of the toilet. The back 2 is of such length as may be reuired as is indicated by the broken lines in t e drawings. It is preferably supported at the desired angle of inclination by means of an adjustable support 19 which is preferably of the telescopic type whereby it may be extended as required, and may be secured to the back section 2 by means of a hinge 19'.

I prefer to secure the back 2 to the seat section 1 by means of pins 20 carried by the back and adapted to be seated in suitable sockets in the seat section 1. Suitable pins 20' or the like, may be provided to frictionally bind the pins 20 in their

sockets

21, 22, 23-are so positioned and inclined that, in the various positions thus assumed by the back, the occupant will be in the position best adapted to the use of the toilet opening in the seat. The seat sockets are so placed as to carry the'back in a vertical position, a horizontal position and any desired number of intermediate positions therebetween. In very young infants, a horizontal recumbent position is, of course, required and for such infant the backwill be positioned in a horizontal position. As the child develops, the back may be raised until the vertical position is reached for older children.

The independent position of the legrest and foot board 27 permits a'djustability as to the needs of a child as may be advised by the pediatrician for evacuatiomso that either an erect or right angled position or a squatting position may be provided for.

I have found in my experience that the training of children should begin at a very early period, particularly as to the process of evacuation and that small infants at stool re uire frequent observation.

andling or disturbing the child during the processis to be avoided and I therefore prefer to employ a receptacle 10 of glass or other transparent or translucent material whereby the contents may be observed without disturbing or removing the child, and this also facilitates romptness in removal of the contents after imination, an important feature in training and mental hygiene.

For the purpose of preventing the soiling of clothing and covering thrown over the child and to direct the urine into the receptacle, 10, I provide a urinal shield 29 which rests against the toilet aperture and within it and has an open spout 29 which passes between the legs of the occupant of the chair.

In Figure- 3 I have shown my improved toilet open and extended for use in the recumbent position of the child. It will,.of course, be understood that the supporting

I have shown the sides secured to the seat section, back and leg rest by means of hooks and eyes 31, but any convenient form of attaching means may be emplo ed.

While I have called particular attention to the advantages of my improved toilet in the care and training of infants and small children, it is evident that it maybe used to advantage in the care and treatment of those suffering from illness or weakness from any cause.

I have thus described the preferred form of my invention but the form shown may be modifiedandotherwise changed without departing from the s irit of my invention.

Having thus descri ed my invention, what I claim is: j

1. In a chair, the combination of a seat section and a back rest, pins on the back rest, and sockets for the pins positioned in the seat section, whereb the back rest may be adj ustably positioned on the seat section. I

2. In a chair, the combination of a seat section. a back rest, pins on the back rest, sockets for said pins and positioned in the seat section, and a leg rest s1de sections thereon producing a trough like structure ada ted to support the occupantand means or adj ustably positioning the back and leg rest.

3. In a chair, the combination of a seat section, a toilet opening therein, a receptacle of translucent material positioned below the said toilet opening and adapted to permit in-' spection of the contents of. the receptacle without removing the occupant of the chair, a back rest, pins on the back rest and sockets in the seatsection adapted to receive the said ins, said socketsbeing set at an les inclined rom the vertical to permit the ack rest to be adjustably positioned on the seat section.

4. In a chair, the combination of a seat section, a toilet opening therein, a receptacle beloW the said toilet opening, a back rest,sockets in the seat section and set at angles of inclination from the vertical, means on the back rest adapted to engage said sockets in the seat section, Whereby'the back rest may be adjustably positioned on the seat section.

5. In a chair, the combination of a seat section, a toilet opening therein, a back rest and a leg rest, side sections on the said seat section, back rest and leg rest, producing a trough-like structure, means for adjustably positioning the leg rest, pin means on the back rest and sockets in the seat section adapted to receive said pins to adjustably position the back rest on the seat section.
