AUTOMOBILE SAFETY GUARD Application filed May 4,

My invention relates to a shield or guard and relates particularly to a shield or guard to be placed in front of the wheels of a vehicle. j My invention still further relates to the V prevention of any object, suchas a person or an animahfrom being run over by the wheels of the car andto brush suchobject from the pathof the wheels.

My invention has particular adaptability on vehicles, used on farms where animals such as chickens are close by, to prevent crushing or running them over.

My invention-further relates to a shield or guard to'brush aside any snow or slush which may hinder the progress of the vehicle.

My invention further relates to a shield or guard to brush aside any glass, tacks or sharp substances which" may cause damage to the pneumatic tires;

Another object ofmy invention is to provide an' adjustable device which may be placed out of the way and rendered inoperative by adjusting means. 7 V

lVith these ends in view my invention consists of a metal semi-cylindrical guard or' shield suspended fromthe axletree or any other portion of the vehicle.

Other objects of my invention, are to provide an improved device of the character described which is easily and economically pro.-

duced, sturdy in construction, and which has a maximum eiflciency and accuracy.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the following details of construction and combinations. of parts, as will be more fully understood from the following specification'in which:

The guard or shield B, formed of a metal 0 v body 20 or any other solid hard material, is semi-circular in cross-sectional area and has extending from nearthe center of its longitudinal side, an extension 22 having at its end a flange23 that fits around the axletree 14 anda bolt 24 passing therethru to hold the flange 23 rigidly to the axletree. The

other side of the guard or shield has an ex tension 25 and a second flange 26 which is fastened to the bearing stud l8 oftheaxletree 7 Y 14and is retained in position by a hub-cap 28. A slot 30 at the end of the flange permits the bearing stud 18 to slide therein so that the shield remains in position when the front wheels of the vehicle are turned.

At each end of the body 20 ofthe shield are openings 32 and 34 for a purpose hereinafter to be described. A strap 36 attached to the fender passes thru the opening 32 and holds the guard in operative position. Howso purpose of brushingaside any glass, tacks or other sharp substance which mayaccumulate in the path of the vehicle and puncture 95 the tires. 7

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a shield or guard, a body of semicircular cylindrical formation, a flange ex tending from one side thereof to be attached to an axletree of a vehicle, a second flange ex- 10 tending from the opposite side of said body to be attached to one end of the bearing stud of said axletree, there being openings at each end of said body, and means to engage one of said openings to secure said body to a fender of said vehicle.

2. In a shield or guard, a body of semi-circular cylindricalformation, a flange extending from one side thereof to be attached to an 'axletree of a vehicle, a second flange extending from the opposite side of said body to be attached to one end of the bearing stud of said ar-zletree, there being openings at each end of said body, means to engage one of said openings to secure said body to a fender of said vehicle, and brush elements depending from the lower ends of said body.
