- Loose POWDER CONTAINER Application filed June 10.
My invention relates to containers and refers particularly to containers adapted for" use with powders. r p v a a While the advantages of loose face powders over powder compacts are generally reco nized, considerable difiiculty'has been ez perience'd inproducin'g'a satisfactory container for the powder in loose condition.
A container forthis purpose must be of such construction that the powder will-not escape, or sift out, when not in use, that powder in small quantities may"- be pos tively expelled feruse and that it be r adily oper- Thevdevice'of my invention possesses all of the'above, and other;yaluablefeatures, as"
will be evidentjupon a consideration ofmy specification its accompanying draw;

A nonsforaminous plate, 13A is positioned above and attached toplate 13. j i i a Positioned within the bottom memberis an two sides '16 and 1 7. 7 Within the dispenser holder ring is'a fo-" raminous dispenser l8,ha ving two extended lips 19 and 20 which extend through' ope'nings in the wall 17 of the ringyallowing a. transverse movement of'the dispenser. Thedispenser 1 8'is normallyretained in its forwardposition by means of a fiatspring 21, a small projection 22 i of thevdisp'enser lip passing annular dispenser holder ring of-U-shaped cross section,'having the bottom 15 and the through anopening in the spring-21, the two" ends of the latter being split, 23,23,24, 24; o'ne split end 24"of each spring end -,enteringj 'a small depression in thewall 16 of'the dis-V An annular foraminous delivery member," I or cover, 25, is hingedly attached at '26 to the side 12 of the body member. A push button; or operating me1nber,'27,,is slidable through a bushing carriedby the side 28 of the cover 25 and carries an arc-shapedsprin'g-29. H The U-shaped'dispense'r ring fits within the delivery member 25, the operating member27 being opposite the dispenser lip20, the spring 7 29 abutting upon the side 17 of thedispenser ring and the faces of the" foraminous dispenser 18 andof the foraminous delivery member 25 abutting upon: each other. The openings in the last two members are soarranged that they are not aligned whenthe deviceis in normal or unused, positiont'bljlt which are aligned when the member 27, is The dispenser ring and the deliveryjmem ber, thus form afunit' movableiupon the hinge 26. These two members areflretained in removable connection by means of aspringf catch 30 having the push member 31' e'Xtending throughan opening in the delivery memher side 28 and an extended hook 32 which is capable of insertion into an opening in the sidefl6of the dispenser ring. I I
A lid, or cover, 33 is carried bythe hinge 26 and has a mirror 34 upon its inner. face.
As the openings 35, 35 of the dispenser 1S and the openings 36, 36 of the delivery'member 25 are in nonealignment under normal conditions, no powder can escape. .vVhen' powder is desired the operating member 27 is pushed inwardly and as the powder is pressed upwardly by the spring operated plate 13, a portion of the powder will be forced through the aligned openings and as the dispenser 18 is moved still further across the device its unperforated portions will out off this extended powder and make it avallable for use with the powder puff 37. Upon the releaseof the operating member 27, the spring 21 will return the dispenser to ts original position. From the drawings it will be seen that the walls of the perforations 36 in the cover 25 are bevelled in a manner to' assist in scooping up powder forced through the openin as in the I dispenser plate 18 and onto the cover 25. These openings have their opposite sides bevelled so asto scoop up powder with movement of the dispenser plate in either direction. Another lmportant advantage of these bev-' elled edges is to allow the powder puff to take up powder from this bevelled portion of the cover as well as from thecflat top of the cover 25. In this way practically all loose powder fed through the dispenser plate is taken up so that substantially none is left on either the dispenser or cover.
It will thus be seen that my invention presents a powder container in which the powder is completely retained when the device is not in use and in which during use a small amount of powder is forced outwardly and cutoff from the main powder mass and thus presented for application. r
It will be further noted that the amount of powder expelled through each opening of the delivery member is small, being practically that which is massed between the openings of the dispenser and the under face of the d?- livery plate, these masses being moved by the act-ion of the dispenser into alignment with the openings of the delivery plate and forced therethrough by the, pressure of the plate 13 upon the main mass of powder.
The powder in my device, therefore, is prevented from escape when it is not in use, and a small amount of it is expelled by each mov ment of the dispensing member.
From Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings it may be seen that the dispenser plate 18 moves from the position shown in Fig. 5 through a position in which the perforations of both plates 18 and 25 are open, to a position in which the perforations of both plates are closed, on continued movement of the dispenser plate. During its movement the edges of the dispenser plate perforations tend to The scrape or shave the compacted'powder. specific motion just j described provides a maximum scraping action for each of the oppositetransverse edges of the dispenser plate perforations, with minimum tendency to compact or iron down the compressed powder by the imperforate portions of the dispenser plate. V
Hence, my deviceis a median for a positive expulsion of a small amountof powder by mechanical means; i f
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number or arrangement of parts, as shown and described, a fthese are given simply as a means for clearly explaining the device of my invention. i
