The operationof my device is as follows:
The idling gasoline vapor is drawn from the tank-through the line 2b, the opening 2a; passingithroug'hthe pipe 10, around the [pipes being above the valve 13, the air which is allowed to pass the valve 13, will thoroughly mix with the vapors providing complete mixing of the fuel with the necessary amount of air required for complete combustion of "the fuel after it has been introduced into the motor. As the motor is accelerated by opening the'throttle valve 12 the suction of the motor will draw more fuel vapors through the pipe 3a, and the flap valve 13 will be drawn open commensurate with the suction of'the engine allowing just the correct amount of air to enter'the upper portion of the casing A where it is mixed with the fuelvapors after they have been drawn out through the pipes 8 and 9. The positions of the pipe 8 and 9 being on opposite sides of the casing A, provides more complete mixing of the fuels before they are drawn into the intake manifolctandthence to the engine. This type of device shown is for using vapors as obtained from the tank by any suitable method, but it will be obvious that the carburetor would work if the pipes 36 and 2b were 'carrying liquid fuels instead of vapors and were connected directly with a float chamber such as would be necessary were the fuels supplied to the pipes froma vacuum tank or fuel pump. 7
' Havingthusdescribed my invention Idesire to secure by Letters Patent and claim In a fuelmixing device the combination of a casing having an air inlet at right angles thereto; means to manually close said inlet as desired; a plate onthe bottom of said casing having two pipes extending upwardly therefrom one of which is bifurcated with one end bent toward the perimeter of the .bore and extended upward to near the top end of the casing and with the short end extended up through a hole in a partial closure in said casing; a throttle valve above said casing in the intake manifold with the small- .er of the two pipes extended up through a cut in the throttle valve; a flap valve pivoted across said casing adjacent said partial closure; an opening in said flap valve to allow one leg of the bifurcated pipe to pass therethrough; a connecting rod pivoted on the side of said flap valve; a piston secured on the free end of said rod by a ball and socket joint having some degree of play therein an adjustable cylinder in which said piston is operated, said cylinder being screwed into'a control chamber on one. side "of said casing a spring between the inner end of the cylinder and the top end of the said piston; anda port through said piston back of the ball and socket joint with the ball end of the connecting rod adapted to close the port when the flap Valve is drawn suddenly open and to allow passageof air therearound when the flap valve is closing or moving gradually.
