IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR STEAMIN G FOOD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,745, dated November 28, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS B. H. AN- DREWS,.Of Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Steaming Food, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved ap- 'paratus for steaming food; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the evaporating-pan.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to an improved appa ratus for steaming food of all kinds, boiling sugar, canning fruit, and for other purposes; and it consists of a furnace with detachable steam-chest and food-box, connected by steam connecting and distributingpipes with the steam-chest. The draft of the furnace may be readily changed by means of dampers, according to the purpose to which the apparatus is applied.
In the drawing, A represents the furnace, and B the steam-chest, which is placed upon the same, and supplied with water for generating steam from a reservoir, or in other suitable manner. The food-steaming box 0 is supported on an ezitensiou-chamber, A, of the furnace, which may be made in one piece therewith, ofcast or sheet iron, and separated therefrom by a hinged damper, C, so that the gases of combustion may be drawn through the same, or not. The furnace has two additional dampersnamely, a front damper, a, and a side damper, b'the hinged damper G and side damper b being closed when the appara' tus is used, as shown in Fig. 1, for the purpose of steaming food. The smoke, &c., is then drawn through a pipe, (I, at the rear of the furnace, and then transferred to a short food-box, and is thereby distributed throughout the food, a cover being placed on the same to retain the heat.
The food is thereby steamed in a quick and effective manner, while, by taking off the steam-chest and food-box, the furnace may be employed for other purposes.
