IMPROVEMENT IN HOSkE-SPANNERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,733, dated November 2B, 1876; -application filed September 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CrcERo SIBERT, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Spanners, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to the construction and arrangement of a Spanner for coupling and unconpliug lire-engine hose, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable othersskilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make y and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribeits construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
A represents a suitable handle, in which the tang or shank of the hose-Spanner is iuserted and firmly secured in anysuitable manner, or the handle and shank may be cast in one piece.
The Spanner is formed oi.' a curved arm, B, with an eye, C, at its outer end, and at the base of the curved arm B is a projection, D, with an eye, E, through it. The spanner B, with its projection D, is less than one-half of a circle, so that it can be readily used upon a coupling of greater or less diameter.
rIhe ordinary hose-spammers now in use have no perforated projection, as shown at D. They are constructed with but one eye, and that at the end of the curved arm corresponding to the eye C. (Shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.)
By my arrangement time is saved and confusion avoided at a moment when time and coolness are ofvery great value. The eye E also answers the purpose of a ring for attaching lug, which has now become the top one. This operation maybe repeated as often as may be necessary to couple or uncouple the hose.
It will be observed that the engagement of the eye with the lug can always be done immediately under the eye of the operator.
