BUCKET-,BAIL EARS.
N@.184 ,7Z2. y Patented Nov. 28,1876.
UNITED 4STATES PATENT OFFICE PATRICK OGRADY, CF STANDISH, MICHIGAN.'
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKET-.BAIL EARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,722, dated November z8, 1876; application tiled February 4, 187 6.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK OGRADT, 0f Standish, in the county ot' Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pails; and I do here-l by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being` had to the accompanying' drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, which form a port ot this specification, and in Whicli- Figure l is a side elevation; and Fig. 2 is Vertical section after the line .fr .1; in Fig. l.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
This invention relates to the manufacture of tubs, pails, 85o.; and it consists in the improved method otl attaching the handles to the same, hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
The nature of my improvement will be readily understood by reference to the drawing, in which .A represents a pail or bucket, having the hoops B and wire handle C. The
uppermost hoop, denoted oy B', has two per foi-ations, a, arranged diagonally opposite to each other, and two ofthe staves, denoted by D, which are arranged opposite to each other, are provided with spherical recesses oat a distance from their upper edge equal to the distance at which it is desired to have the handle C affixed. In putting the pail together, the uppermost hoop B is so adjusted with reference to the staves D that the perfor-ations a shall come exactly opposite to the recesses c, the ends ofthe wire handle having been rst inserted and bent, so as to form hooks b that will prevent the withdrawal ot' the handle through the pert'orations et ct. The hoop is then secured in the usual manner, the hooks b ot' each end ot' the handle being accommodated in the recesses c in staves D provided for that purpose.
I am aware that it is not new to secure the handle to a pail by means ot' a perforated upper hoop in combination with a heilt or hooked wire handle; and I do not, therefore, claim suchconstruction, broadly; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States, is as follows:
The combination of the pail A, having stares D'D recessedat c o, and arranged diagonally` opposite to each upper hoop, B', having perfor-ations t a, and handle C, having hooks I) b, substantially as and t'or the purpose herein shown and specied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence ot' two Witnesses.
PATRICK OGRADY.
