Description
March J. w. ROBINSON 1,347,195
COPYHOLDER Filed March 26, 1930 Patented Mar. 1, 1932 UNITED STATES JOHN W. ROBINSON, OF GHICOZRA, MISSISSIPZPI COPYHOLDER Application filed March 26,1930. Serial no. 439,116.
This invention relates to a copy holder, especially designed for use in holding copy work or notes from which copies are being made so that the operator may conveniently view the copy work or notes.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be secured to the typewriter desk or table in such a way that the rest or copy holding section of the device may be moved to various positions to facilitate the copying operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for locking the supporting board or table in its positions of adjustment.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of a copy holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmental detail view of one of the integral ears of the base.
Figure 6 is a sectional view through a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the base, which is formed preferably of sheet metal and provided with integral upstanding spaced ears 6.
The reference character 7 indicates the supporting arms of the holder, and as shown the lower ends thereof are formed with enlargements 8 that have depressions formed along the upper edges thereof, as shown by Figure 4 of the drawings, the depressions being designed to receive the roughened portions 9 of the ears 6.
view taken on line Openings are formed in the ears'and enlargements to receive the bolts 9 that are supplied with. lock washers 10 sovthat when the nuts 11, mounted on the ends of the bolts, are screwed home, a binding action is set up between the ears 6 and enlargements Stohold the arms in their positions of adjustment.
' Enlargements 12'are formed at the outer ends/of the arms 7, which enlargements are formed with openings to receive the bolt 13 which also passes through the knuckle 14 of a connecting link, the bolt being supplied with a nut 15 to set up a binding action between the arms and knuckle 14. As shown, the arms converge towards their upper ends to bring the enlargements 12 thereof into gripping relation with respect to each other to grip the knuckle 14 therebetween.
At the outer end of the connecting link opposite the knuckle 14 is a head 16, formed to accommodate the plate 17, which is secured to the rear surface of the table or holder proper 18. A bolt 18 passes through the head 16 and spaced ears 19 of the plate 17 to secure the outer end of the link in its positions of adjustment. A ledge indicated by the reference character 20, is formed along the lower edge of the table proper against which the lower edge of the book or paper being co ied rests, to the end that the book or copy Wi 1 be supported in a proper inclined position.
Openings are formed in the ledge 20, so that the spring clips indicated at 21 may be positioned therein, the spring clips comprising leg members that grip the pages or sheets being copied, to hold them to the table.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 6 of the drawings, the ears 22 areconnected by means of the bolt 23 that extends through openings in the ears. \Vashers 23' and 24 are held between the ears, and disposed on opposite sides of the member 25 held therebetween by frictional contact with the washers. Thus it will be seen that by tightening the nut 26 at one end of the bolt ing the base 5 to the typewriter desk or table,
directly behind the typewriter so that the table will be directly in front of the eyes of the person operating the typewriter, making it unnecessary for the operator to view the pages being copied, by looldng sideways.
I claim: v
A copy holder comprising a base, pairs of upstanding ears having inturned and roughened flanges, mounted on the base, arms each having an enlargement at one end, one enlargement fitted between the ears of each pair to secure the arms against movement, a link having a knuckle at one end fitted between the outer ends of the arms, a table plateadapted to be secured to a table, said plate having spaced ears, the other end of the link being held between the ears of the plate to adjustably mount the table and means for holding the arms, table plate and link in their positions of adjustment.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature.
JOHN W. ROBINSON.
