Description
Feb. 16, 1932. M. M. WRRIGHT NOTEBOOK HOLDER Filed Sept. 4, 1930 ive/1650i; 6 J6. wmz
Patented Feb. 16, 1932 UNITED STATES mom I. WRIGHT, OF LEWISTON, NEW YORK no'rnnoox nomma Application filed September 4, 1830. Serial No. 479,758.
My present invention relates to note-book holders and more particularly to holders adapted to receive a filler, as a stenographic note-book.
5 An object of my invention is to provide a note-book holder of simplified construction into which a filler may be inserted and from which said filler may be removed with a minimum of effort.
A further object of my invention is to provide a notebook holder adapted, in one position, to support the note-book in a tilted position whereby the contents thereof are visible and are supported in a convenient po- 15 sition for reading or transcribing.
Other objects, features and advanta es will be apparent as the description procee s.
A better understanding of my invention may be had by reference to the drawings 99 wherein I have illustrated one form of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a sectional view of a note-book embodying my invention, the note-book being illustrated in the horizontally extended position.
Figure 2 is an isometric view of the same, showing the positions occupied by the various parts thereof when said holder is in the tilted position, and Figure 3 is an isometric view showing the holder in the closed position.
Referring to the drawings, in the form of my invention illustrated, reference numeral M 10 designates generally a note-book holder comprising three sect-ions, 11, 12 and 13, adapted to form the front and back covers and bottom or base portion thereof, respectively. Each section comprises a rectangular member 14 of heavy paper-board or other 1 "suitable material, completely covered by a continuous wrapper 15, which is preferably a heavy textile material of the nature of that ordinarily used as a binding material for books, and which may be secured to the sections 14 by an adhesive. As will be seen in Figure 1, sections 11 and 13 are spaced from each other and are flexibly connected together by portions 15-11 of wrapper 15 which extends therebetween. In a somewhat similar manner the portions 15-?) of member 15 serves as a flexible connection to secure sections 11 and 12 together. However, portion 15b is larger than ortion 15a and between the two layers t ereof there is secured by means of an adhesive, a spring member 16 of substantially triangular cross-section. The adjacent surfaces of the two layers of portions 15-a and 15-4) are secured together in any suitable manner, as by gluing or stitching. A tubular member 17 is secured to the under side of section 13 (Fig. 1) at thefree end thereof. As shown, member 17 is inserted between section 13 and wrapper 15 and is held in position by an adhesive;
To insert a filler in the holder, sections 11 and 12 are moved downwardly, looking at Figure 1, until the adjacent ends thereof contact with the upstanding legs 16--a of spring 16. Upon further movement of said sections, the lower portion of said sprin will act as a fulcrum, and the adjacent en s of sections 11 and 12 will move away from each other, thus separating the up er free ends of legs 16-a and permittin o the insertion therebetween of a filler. pon releasing sections 11 and 12, le S 1 6a will move toward each other until t e enga e that portion of the filler positione there etween and will hold the latter firmly in position within the folder. For writing purposes the holder is placed in the position shown in Fi ure 3 and front cover 11 is folded back. n the reading or note-transcribing position, illustrated by Figure 2, the lower free end of cover 11 rests against cylindrical member 17, the latter member serving as a stop to prevent sliding movement of said lower end in a horizontal direction and thus maintains covers 11 and 12 in the position illustrated.
The advantages of my invention will now be apparent. The holder may be quickly filled by bending cover members 11 and 12 in the manner described and inserting the filler between the separated'free edges of spring 16. No adjustment for different size fillers is necessary. The conventional stenographic note-book which is generally provided with a heavy paper cover, may be readily used by removing the cover from one side thereof, leaving only a portion sufliciently long to be inserted between the upper free edges of spring 16, as indicated in broken line in'Figure 2.
It will be found that by using a piece of against cover member 11.
A further advantage of the holder described lies in the factthatwhen occupying the position shown in Figure :2, it will remain perfectly stationary andv will not be. moved or caused to walk. by vibrations such as those incidental-to the operation of a typewriter.
I have described and illustrated one form of: my invention. Many modifications will occurto those skilled in the art. I do not intend to be limited to the form described and shown, but intend this patentto cover all'such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
-W-hatI claim as my invention and desire to -secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A note-book cover comprising a front cover, aback cover and a base portion, a continuous strip of flexible material secured to said-covers and said base section, and pencilholding means interposed between said fabric: and-the: free end of said base portion.
2 A note-book holder comprising a front cover, a back cover spaced therefrom at one end thereof, abase portion spaced from the opposite end' thereof, a continuous strip of flexible material affixed to said covers and.
3. A note-book holder comprising a cover member, a second cover member flexibly connected therewith at one end thereof, a base portionflexibly connected to said first-named cover member at the opposite end thereof,
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
MARGARET MFWRIGHT.
the cover of the note-book as a flap in this manner, the note-book will lie perfectly flat
