Description

Feb. 9,1932. I J. P. FREEMON 1,844,247
COMBINED HEAT AND VIBRATION MASSAGE DEVICE Filed March 27, 1929 INVENTOR,
efaZn 2 996 7? 0 2 AT ORNEY Patented Feb. 9, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN P. FREEMON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO JEANNE V. FREEMON,
OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA COMBINED HEAT AND VIBRATION MASSAGE DEVICE Application filed March 27, 1929. Serial No. 350,334.
This invention relates to vibratory massage instruments and more especially to small hand applied electric-mtor vibrators.
Electric vibrators have long been in practical use for massage purposes as beneficial in the massaging of the skin tissue and muscles. An object of my present invention is to provide means combined with the me chanical massaging implement whereby to m closely or directly apply heat as generated by an electric heating element or to apply heat combined with the rays of a luminous filament with or without the modifying effect of a light screen.
Thatis to say an object is to provide a vibrator having a head lens means covering a light filament so that light may pass through the lens head while this is directly impinged against the tissue being treated.
Additional objects, advantages and features of construction will be made manifest in the ensuing description of the herewith illustrative apparatus; it being understood that modifications, variations and adaptations may be resorted to within the spirit, scope and principle of the invention as it is more directly claimed hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a modified form of the device, and
Figure 2 is a central plane section and cle vation thereof.
' Figure 3 is a cross-section of the armature drive connection.
A preferred form of Vibrator mechanism is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 wherein a magnetic device 30 is mounted in a handle H and oscillates an armature 82 which is pivoted at 33 and has a yoke 34 engaging a CI'USS, pin 35. This pin is secured in the shell 12 40 which reciprocates on the fixed sleeve hearing 5, this being at an angle of 90 across the top of the handle H.
On the outer end of the shell 12 is screwed a lens 14, preferably of light condensing capacity to intensify the heat from a luminous heating element 18 mounted on a support 16 attached to lugs 5 of the bearing 5, whose circuit is controlled by a switch S.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described, including a handle inclosing an oscillative armature, a heater chamber fixed transverse to the handie and containing a fixed heater, and an applicator head having a shell slidable on said chamber and connected to said armature for reciprocation thereby.
Signed at Los Angeles, California, June JOHN P. FREEMON.
