Description

AG. Moena.
PLOW. v No.184,411, Patented Nv.14,187e.
UNITED STATES PATENT CEEIGE GLLPIN MOORE, OF MOLINE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO DEERE 8U GO., OF
SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,411, dated November 14, 1876; application filed September 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern line, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful AImprovements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make' and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
rIhis invention relates to improvements in turning-plows of that class having what are generally known as set-up handles; and the invention consists in the use of a metallic brace extending across the plow-standard, to which it is securely attached, and attached at its lower end to `the land-side bar, and at its upper end to the end of the set-up handle, and forming, with the standard and handle, a lattice-truss bracing to the plow-beam, a strong support for the handle, and a brace to the standard, as hereinafter more fully described, and set forth in the claims.y
In the accompanying drawing, Figure lis a perspective view of a plow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, the mold-board and share removed, and showing an elevation of other parts.
Referring to the drawing by letters, A represents the beam; B, the mold-board O, the share; D, the land-side bar; E, the standard, F, the frog 5 Gr, the angle-plate, connecting the standard and mold-board, H, the heelbrace, and I I the handles of an ordinary turning-plow. J is a brace-bar welded to the standard E, crossing it obliquely, in about the position shown in the drawings, and is bolted at its lower end to the land-side bar D` by a bolt, f, which may be the same bolt that secures the frog F to the land-side bar. The handle I extends below its attachment a to the standard E, as herein described, and to which it is'attached, together with the lower end of the handle I, which connects the brace J to the beam, form the diagonal braces of a lattice truss-frame, of which the beam A is the upper chord and the land-side D the lower chord, the effect [of which construction is to impart to the beam great rigidity and security of attachment. The lower end of the brace J also forms an ei'ectual brace for the,
standard E, and its upper end an effectual attachment f@ the handle I, and in a set-up position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimv as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The brace J crossing the standard E, to which it is attached, combined with the beam A and land-side D, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. The brace J, constructed and arranged substantially as described, in combination with the handle I and standard E, for the purpose specified.
3. rIhe brace-J and vstandard E, constructed and connected substantially as described, and combined with the land-side D, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GILPIN MOORE. Witnesses:
W. T. BALL, AUG. MIEDKE.
