One end of a link 58 is mounted on the pin 54, and the opposite end thereof is connected by a pin 61 to a crank 60 pivotally mounted on the bar 38, the link and crank serve to tilt the platform for a purpose later described.
Platfornr52 consists of a center bar 62, side plates 63, an end plate 64, and an upright 65. It will be seen, due to the parallel mounting of the bar 38 and member 44, that the platform lies in a horizontal plane regardless of the position assumed by said bar and member i. e., when the platform is raised or lowered.
WVhen mounted on the platform the plates 63 engages the sides of the draft gear, and prevent sidewise tilting, the upright extends between the flanges 7 5 of the coupling receiv-- ing member, and a removable pin 7 6 inserted through the slots 77 formed therein, and an opening 78 in the upper end of the upright serves to hold the gear against rocking or tilting.
The platform is raised by admitting compressed air into the cylinder above the piston. A pipe line 7 O with intake and exhaust valves (1 and 7-2 respectively are provided for this purpose, the pipe enteringa port 73 formed in the cylinder wall, and a flexible hose 7 4 extends from the pipe to a source of compressed air.-
v The platform is now raised (by opening of the intake valve 71) so that the bar 38 will be clear of the ground, the valve is then closed and the apparatus moved under the car designated at C. The platform is then lowered (by opening the exhaust valve 72) and tilted as shown in Fig. 6 by manipulating the crank 60, the platform being thus tilted in order that the outer end of the draft gear willcl'ear the axle A of the truck T. V l The platform is then raised and returned to a horizontal. position and the apparatus moved to a position so that the draft gear will be directly under the flanges or lugs L secured to center sills S of the car frame as shown in- Fig.7, and the draft gear israised to the position shown in Fig. 8 between the lugs L. The carrier plate P is then bolted to the center sills, and the pin-7 6 removed.
The.. latform may then be loweredand the apparatus removed. It will be readily understood that a draft gear may be removed by reversal of the above described operations,
neaaeee a link connecting said members together adjacent one end thereof and holding the same in parallel relation, a load supporting platform, link means pivotally connecting said platform to said elevating members, whereby the platform will assume a horizontal position when the same is raised or lowered by tilting movement of said members, and a fluid operated means mounted on said frame ant pivotally connected to the elevating member for tilting the same.
2. An apparatus of the character described comprising a rectangular shaped frame, wheels supporting said frame, an upright secured to each side of said frame, a bar pivotally mounted on a pin extending between said uprights, amember disposed above said bar pivotally mounted on said uprights, a link connected to said bar and member at one end thereof, and holding the same in parallel relation, a platform having a pair of arms formed thereon, means connecting the arms on said platform to said bar and member, and means carried by said frame and connected to said bar, whereby said platform may be raised. An apparatus of the character described comprising a rectangular shaped frame, wheels supporting said frame, an upright secured to each side of said frame, a bar pivotally mounted on a pin extending between said uprights, a member disposed above said bar pivotally mounted on said uprights, a link connected to said bar and member at one end thereof and holding the same in parallelrelatio-n, a platform having a pair of armsformed thereon, means connecting the arms on said platform to said bar and memher, a cylinder carried by said frame, a piston in said cylinder having a rod connected to said bar, and means for admitting compressed air into said cylinderabove the piston, whereby said platform may be raised.

In an apparatus of the character described, a horizontally mounted on wheels, a pair of longitudinal members pivotally connected to said frame, means connecting said longitudinal members together at one end thereof and holding the same in parallel relation,a platform having arms depending therefrom engaging the opposite ends of said longitudinal members and pivotally connected to the uppermost of said ,members, and means connected to the arms of said platform and the lowermost longi-- tudinal members, whereby said platform may be tilted.
5. In an apparatus .of the character described, a horizontally disposed frame mounted on wheels, a pair of longitudinal members pivotally connected to said frame, means connecting said longitudinal members together at one end thereof and holding/the same in parallel relation, a platform having arms depending. therefrom engaging the op-- disposed frame posite ends of said longitudinal members, a pin pivotally connecting. said arms to the uppermost of said longitudinal members, a pin connected to the arms of said platformand extending through an arcuate slot in the lowermost longitudinal member, a crank carried by the lower longitudinal member and a link connected to said pin and crank, whereby said platform may betilted.
