My invention relates to improvements in window or door screens.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a novel window or door screen frame which can be easily and quickly adjusted to diflerent lengths and widths, which is cheap to make, is durable, strong, not likely to get out of order, which will hold the screen Wire firmly stretched, and which permits the easy and quick replacement of the screen wire when the latter requires such replacement.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation, partly broken away, of my improved screen.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view, enlarged, of one of the base members of the screen frame.

My improved screen frame is provided with four right angled base members 1, each 01": which, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, may be right angled in cross section. The base members 1 are arranged in a rectangle with the arms of each member 1 overlapping and lon- Serial No. 523,730.
gitudinally adjustable on the adjacent arms of adjacent ones of said base members 1, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5.
Four right angled clamping members 2, which as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, may be channel shaped in cross section, respectively overlie the base members 1, the arms of said clamping members 2 being respectively parallel with the arms which they overlie, said clamping members 2 being disposed and adjustable with relation to each other in the same arrangement and adjustment as has been described with relation to the base members 1.

Each arm of each base and clamping memher is provided with a longitudinal slot 4 which registers with the adjacent slot or slots of the over or underlying arms.
Each arm of each base and clamping memher is providedwith a hole 5 adapted to register with slots 4 of overlying or underlying arms, and also adapted to register with the holes 5 of overor underlying arms.

Additional screws 7 may also be extended through registering slots 4, as shown in Fig. 1. The screws 6 and 7 are adjustable lengthwise of the slots 4: through which they respectively extend.

3 and overlying the base mem- The screws 6 are then inserted, as are the screws 7, through holes 5 and slots 4 which are in register. The nuts 8 are then mounted on the screws 6 and 7 and tightened against the base members 1, the screws being extended through the screen wire 3. The clamping members 2, thus tightly clamp the screen wire 3 against the base members 1, and the screws 6 and 7 hold the screen wire from pulling out from between the members which clamp it.
To replace the screen wire, after it becomes worn, the nuts 8, screws 6 and 7 and clamping plates 2 are removed with the'worn wire, and new wire is then mounted on the base members and clamped thereto by reassembling the clamping plates 2, screws 6 and 7 and nuts 8. V 7
If a screen larger than can be formed'with the base and clamping members alone, this may be effected by the employment of four straight extension base plates 9 and four extension channel plates 10. 1 The base. plates and channel plates are used in'pairs.
Each base plate 9 has a longitudinal slot 4: and with two holes .5 respectively adjacent to its ends. The clamping plates 10 are each provided with a longitudinal slot 4' and two holes 5' respectively adjacent to its ends.
a To form the frame shown in Fig. 6, the base members 1, shown in dotted lines, are disposed in a rectangle with their adjacent arms spaced apart. "Extension base plates 9 are then mounted on the members v1 so as to bridge the spaces between them.
The screen wire 3, cut to size, is then placed on the base members 1 and base plates 9. The clamping members 2 are then mounted .respectively on the base members 1, as has beendescribed, and the clamping plates '10 are then mounted respectively on the base plates 9, the latter and the clamping plates lOoverlapping the adjacent arms of the members 1 and 2.

In a window or door screen, an adjustable frame comprising four right angled base members arranged in a rectanglewiththe arms of each member respectivelyoverlapping and longitudinally adjustable 0n:;the adjacent arms of adjacent ones of said-lbase members, four right angled'clampin'g members respectively overlying; said base members with their arms respectively parallel with the arms which they overlie and disposedand adjusted with respect to each other similarly to the arrangement and adjustment of the arms of said basemembers, said base. and clamping members being adapted to clamp between them screen wire, each of the arms of said base and-clamping members having a longitudinal slot which registers with the slots. of adjacent arms, and clamping means extending through saidslots and movable lengthwise thereof for fastening said members together.

In a window or door screen, an adjustable frame comprising four right angled base members arranged in a rectangle withthe arms of each member respectively overlapping and longitudinally adjustable on the adjacent arms of adjacent ones of said base members, four right angled clamping members respectively overlying said "base I me m.
