Description

Jan. 19, 1932. F. FERGUSON 1,842,090
APPARATUS FOR THE SUPPLY OF OZONE AND THE LIKE Filed July 10, 1930 atented Jan. 1%, i932 FERG'US FERGUSON, OF PARIS, FOE
' FOR THE SUPPLY OF OZONE AND THE LIKE Application filed July 10, 1930, Serial No. 466,947, and in France April 14, 1930.
' The present invention relates to an installation for the supply of ozone for industrial, domestic, medical and other use, for instance amongst others for beauty, dental and mouth treatments and biological studies.
The installation comprises pipes connected to a device in which ozone is produced and a compressor apparatus of any kind, to convey the ozone where required and at a desired to pressure.
1 In order that the invention'may be better understood, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in Fig. 1 shows in elevation an apparatus according to the invention, suitable for fixing on a wall or the like.
. Fig. 2 shows a section in side elevation, to
alarger scale, of a portion of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the actual ozone-producing part being indicated in dotted lines.
7 Fig. 3 is a view in elevation partly in sectionof the ozone-producing device indicated in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of the suppogting discs of the ozone-producing device, an
Fig. 5 shows in elevation a portable apparatus, constructed according to the invention and mounted on wheels.
The ozone-producing apparatus comprises a receptacle A carried by bracket-like devices B and adapted'to be hermetically closed by L. The cover has a central orifice provided coil D and means of a cover J fixed in position by bolts the current and these are connected to the output terminals of a Ruhmkorfi coil D.
The actual ozone-producing device, which is adapted to be housed in the receptacle A,
is constituted by an aluminium disc I forming the positive pole and connected electrically to one of the threaded rods D by means of a strip or laminated contact and by a second disc I also of aluminium connected to the lower threaded rod D and forming the negative pole. These discs are interconnected by an ebonite rod or spindle H and each is pierced with eight holes 0 in which are mounted glass tubes M.
Each glass tube M is surrounded by a helie0 I cally coiled aluminium wire N which contacts with the upper disc I whilst the interior of each tube has located therein a twisted flattened strip onwire N of copper or aluminium which contacts with the lower disc I.
The device thus constituted is introduced into the receptacle A, a handle or the like V formed with two branches facilitating its insertion.
- When a difference of potential is established between the armatures thus formed by connecting them to the poles of a Ruhmkorff after a certain quantity of air under pressure has been introduced into the receptacle A, then this air is ozonized at .the end of a determined period of time.
Piping connected to the orifice F allows the ozonized air to be brought to any desired place and at the required pressure, which may be regulated at will.
Accordingto Fig. 1,the receptacle A is mounted on a board by suitable connecting means. The Ruhmkorff coils D and D" are provided connected to the actual ozonizing device represented in Fig. 3. I is the switch and E the middle portion of a passage for the ozone from the receptacle A to a dis: tributor F, provided with hree or more cocks G for the distribution of ozonized air. The 9 I a of example only.
cocks G are adapted to be connected to pipes leading to positions in which the ozone is to be utilized. A glass receptacle B may be employed for the sterilization of water by the ozone.
The wall apparatus just described is described for dental or medical service with the object of using the ozonized air as a disinfectant and antiseptic medium.
Fig. 5 shows a complete apparatus constructed according to the invention mounted upon a trolley and especially suitable for use in a hospital or the like. In this method of carrying the invention into eifect, 1 represents a receiver or reservoir for compressed 'air mounted upon casters. The compressed air is supplied by a small piston compressor 2 operated by an electric motor 3. @n a table or support 4 fixed to the cover of the reservoir 1 the receptacle A is mounted, the interior or" the receptacle having therein the ozone-producing device shown in Fig. 3. Piping 5, with cocks 6 and 7, allows the ozonized air to'be brought into a receptacle 8 filled with water by means of a plunger tube 9 fixed in the cover 11, so as to bubble through the water in the receptacle to assure its perfeet sterilization. A cock 10 is provided for drawing ofi' the water thus sterilized. The cover 11 forms at the same time a distributor for ozonized air and with this object is provided with two lateral cocks 12 which are adapted to be connected to rubber pipes or the like for conveying the ozonized air to the desired positions.
The methods of carrying the invention into effect particularly described are given by way The compressed air may be supplied by means of a small compressor and the apparatus described would then be connected to the receiver of the compressor or even could be located of if desired.
The present, invention is further applicable to all cases for the supply of ozone or ozonized air under pressure, whatever the precise form of the actual ozone-producing apparatus and can be utilized as a wall apparatus as has been hereinbefiore described or coupled with any fixed or movable suitable compressor apparatus.
