LAVATORY Filed April 7, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Jan. 12, 1932 PATENT OFFICE ROY B. PORTER, F FORT LEE, NEW JERSEY LAVATORY Application filed April 7, 1930. Serial No. 442,416.
This invention relates to improvements in lavatories, and more particularly to an integrally cast lavatory having its back extended upwardly and so formed as to promvide an integral medicine cabinet therein which will extend substantially flush with the front of said back.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds. v In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved lavatoryand medicine cabinet show ing the door of the cabinet in opened position;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through my'combined lavatory and medicine cabinet;
, Figure 3 is a top plan view of the lavatory and medicine cabinet;
Figure 1 is a side elevation thereof, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
7 In carrying out my invention, it will be apparent that the combined lavatory and medicine cabinet may be made from any desired material, but it is preferred to make the same from cast iron or from glazed porcelain.
The lavatory 1 is provided with the usual surrounding flange 2, and has its back portion 3 extended upwardly to form a medicine cabinet 4:. The side walls 5 of the back 3,are of sufficient depth to provide ample space for the medicine cabinet 4, while the top 6 of the back 3 is formed to provide an integral quarter-round concave reflector 7, and an integral soap holding well 8 and glass holding well 9 at the opposite sides of said reflector. An electric light bulb 10 may be placed in a socket so that the light rays therefrom may be directed by the reflector upon the face of a person standing in front of the lavatory and medicine cabinet to facilitate shaving. A mirror 11 may be suitably supported upon the wall above the medicine cabinet 4, thereby permitting various selections of style or types of mirrors.
A removable frame 12 will be supported within the medicine cabinet at, and comprises spaced cross members 13, vertical connecting members 14, and forwardly extending shelf supporting arms 15. Securing bolts 16 will be passed through the back portion 8 and through the spaced cross members 13 to support the frame 12 in position within the medicine cabinet 4. Suitable shelves 17 may be supported upon the arms 15, and may be removed when desired.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
An integral casting comprising a lavatory and cabinet for medicines to the rear of said lavatory, the opposite side walls of said lavatory being extended upwardly to form the side walls of said cabinet, said cabinet being entirely located and positioned within the lateral limits of said lavatory and directly above the same.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
ROY R. PORTER.
