My invention relates to caps for fountain pens, and is an improvement over the copending application of Deli and Groseclose, Serial No. 307,193, filed September 20, 1928.

It is well'known that devices for securing fountain pens to the pockets of the user are very numerous and of divers designs and constructions.

However, the addition of a clip to a pen in 1 the various designs heretofore utilized has proven relatively expensive from a manufacturing standpoint and one of the objects of my invention is to provide a cap with a clip which is cheaply and easily assembled, and

yet as strong and durable as necessity requires.

A further object of my invention is to provide means in the form of a decorative head for enclosing the various cooperating elements.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a fountain pen cap construction in accordance with my invention;

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the cap construction;

By reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that my invention comprises substantially, the open ended cap 10, the plug 11, the clip 12 and sleeve 13, and the head 14. p

In assembling the parts of my invention, the plug 11 is forced through the'tube or cap 10 until the shoulders 15 on thelower end of the plug contact the shoulders 16 on the upper end of the cap, the shoulders thus acting as a limit stop. a 7

The exposed portion 17 of the plug 11 is provided with an arcuate longitudinal groove 18 for the reception of the arcuate retaining member 19 on the upper end of the clip. The member 19 is simply inserted into economical manufacture and simple assembly.

Obviously, the tube 10 and plug 11 could be; formed as one part if desired, and the groove 18 could be shortened to terminate below the-threads, if desired, such groove being necessarily only the length of the retaining member.

I claim: 1. In a cap for fountain pens, the combination of an open-ended tube, a plug closing one end of said tube, a portion of said 0 plug projecting beyond the end of said tube, said projecting portion having a longitudinal groove therein, a pocket clip, a retaining member formed on the upper end of said clip, said retaining member adapted to be received in said groove, a sleeve adapted to fit over said plug and retaining member whereby to confine said clip, and a head adapted to fit over said plug and sleeve.

2. In a 'cap for fountain pens, the combination of a tube, a plug closing one end of the said tube, a pen clip, the upper portion of which is bent to provide a retaining member, means for securing said clip to said plug, and a head for enclosing said plug, retaining member' and securing means.

3. In a cap for fountain pens, the combination of a tube, said tube having a notch in the upper end thereof, a plug closing the'upper end'of said tube, a pen clip, the upper portion of which is bent to provide a retaining member, means for securing said clip to said plug, and a head for enclosing said plug, retaining member and securing means.

In combination, a cap with open ends and a notch in one end, a grooved plug within and projecting beyond one end of said cap, a clip having an arm'occupying said notch and a retaining member occupying the groove 1n the plug, a sleeve surrounding the plug and holding said clip in place, and a head fitted over the'projecting portion of the plug.

5 In combination, a cap with 0 en ends and a notch in one end, a grooved plhg'within and projectingbeyond one end of said cap, a clip having an arm occupying said notch and a retaining member occupying the groove in the plug, a sleeve surrounding'the plug and holding the said clip in place, and a head fitted over the projecting portion of the plug, said retaining member'being bent at anacute' angle relative to said clip.

6. In combination, a 'capwith open ends and a notch in one end, a plug within and projecting beyond one end of said cap, said plug havin a groove in the projectingportion thereo aolip having an arm occupying saidnotch and aretaining member occupying the 'groove in the plug, a sleeve surrounding the plug and holding said clip in place, and a hlead fitted over the projecting portion of the p ug.
