This invention relates to a knife guard, being particularly concerned with a very practical and simple guard for the cutting edge of knives and which, among other of its places of use, may be used for guarding and protecting from injury the cutting edges of knives used with large or power operated paper cutters in printing establishments. It is necessary in a great many instances to ship the knives, which may be of considerable length, from the factory where they are produced to the manufacture of the paper cutting machines or, in cases where knives have to be replaced from either the knife or paper cutter manufacturer to the user of the machine. The edge of the knife is very sharp and needs to be guarded when thus shipped, both for the purpose of protecting the knife edge against injury, such as dulling, nickmg or the like, and, further, to protect those who are called upon to han# die the knife either during its shipment or before or after shipment.`

The present invention is concerned with a particularly simple, yet exceptionally practical guard .in different knives, over the cutting edge of the knife serving to lengths for different lengths of cover the same so that it will' injure no one, and at the same time hold the cutting edge of the knife away from the guard whereby it will not be injured by the guard, while the guard itself protects the cutting edge from injury from outside sources.

The longer vertical ,side of the knife bears against the inner side of the longer vertical or front side 6 of the guard, the shorter side of the knife correspondingly bears against the inner side of the shorter rear side of the guard and the bevel at ll comes against the concave inner side of the section 8, with the cutting-edge'of the knife coming into the space enclosed by the loop 9.

.By reason ofthe bearing of the bevel at m'llonthe curved section 8 the cutting. edgeV l2 of the knife is held away from the metal where it is formed into the loop 9, andthe edge of the knife cannot come in contact with the metal.
