This invention relates'to the construction of a container or vcan particularly suited for semi-solid substances such as toilet creams and the like.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved container of the type which has a removable top and slidable bottom plate whereby the contents may be ejected by manually pushing upwardlyV on said bottom plate; to provide a container particularly adapted to be filled, in an inverted position, with a semi-solid substance such as a toilet cream; and to provide a container which is relatively low priced to manufacture and of rigid and durable construction.
An illustrative embodiment ofthis invention is shown in the accompanying drawings,
in which f Fig. 1 is a View in vertical side elevation of the improved container with thel closure cap thereon.
Fig. 2 is a view of the same with the closure cap removed and the contents of the container partially ejected, the slidalolel bottom plate being shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional View of the container in an inverted position, the
container being shown lled and with the closure cap and bottom plate in position.
In the construction shown in the drawings, the container comprises a sheet of metal having opposite edges thereof joined together by a suitable loclr seam 1 to form a casing 2, open at the top and bottom. In the specic embodiment shown, the casing 2 is oval in cross section, but it will be understood that the container may be formed in any suitable or 10i desirable shape. Y
The top marginal 'edge' of the casing is folded outwardly and doubled back upon itself as shown at 3, to add rigidity to the container and at the same time provide a. smooth 4 finished edge. A suitable cover orclosure 4 is provided to fit over the top of the container and be retained thereon by friction.
The lower marginal edge of the casing isv folded inwardly and doubled baclruponl itself, as shown` at 5. The doubled marginal Yboard or the like, which is slightly greater in Vtom of the casing.
edge is beaded outwardly, as shown at 6, and the width ofsuch bead is less than the width of the folded margin. That portion of the folded margin 5 that is not beaded protrudes inwardly from the inner wall of the casing to form a seat 7 which is of less area than the cross sectional area of the casing. .t The seat 7l is adapted to support a flexible or pliable bottom plate 8, preferably of Cardarea than thefcross sectional area of the Casing so as to assume an inwardly bowed position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, when inserted in the casing through the open bottom end past the seat 7.
VThis container is particularly adapted for being filled with a semi-solid or congealable material such as'toilet creams. In filling the container, the closure 4 is placed on the top endin snug frictional engagement with the i flange 3. The container is then inverted and filled through the open bottom end, and then the pliable bottom plate 8 is forced into the bottom past the supporting seat 7. The plate is maintained in a slight bow due to it being larger than the container and is retained from passing out through the bottom of the casing by engagement with the flange seatr7.
When it is desired to use the cream or other material in the container, the closure 4 isf removed and the bottom plate 8 is pressed upwardly by inserting a finger through the bot- 4 As the bottom plate is slidablein the casing, the plate and contents are slid upwardly, causing the material there-"11 in to project out the top of the container as shown at 9 in Fig. 2.
Although but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein'shown and dep scribed, it will be understood that numerous vdetails of the construction may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claim. j Y
I claim: Y
A container comprising: a vertical tubular member having its lower end portion folded inwardly and upwardly to form a hollow seat; and a flexible upwardly convexing bottom member `diametrically larger than the
