Description

Dec. 15, 1931. Q GLQVER 1,837,038
CHICKEN BOOT Original Filed March 30, 1928 2 dyaalafi 620%);
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 15, 1931 OSCEOLA B. GIJOVER, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS 'on'rcxmv 30011 Application filed March so, 1928,
This invention relates to a device for preventing fowls flying over fences or other enclosures and for preventing fowls from set-' ting, the general object of the invention being to provide a band adapted to be attached to one leg of the fowl and carrying an upright member engaging a portion of the leg above the knee and acting to prevent the bending of the leg at the knee, thus preventing the fowl from setting and also preventing the bending of the leg in getting a start to fly over a fence.
Another object of the invention is to provide lacing means for fastening the band to the leg. p
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in'the com-- bination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus-. trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. 7
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which V Figure 1 is a view showing how the device is attached to' the legof a fowl.
Figure 2 is a front View of the device. Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View therethrough.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates a leg band which has the hooks 2 adjacent its split edges for receiving the lacing 3 which holds the band to the leg. A member 4,
formed of wire or the like bent to form a curved cross piece 5 and converging limbs, is fastened to the front of'the band by hav ing its extremities 6 soldered or otherwise fastened to the band; The band has a linmg 7 so that it will not injure the leg fowl.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when this device is placed on one leg of the Serial No. 265,975. Renewed 0mm 8, 1931.
to bend its leg sufficiently to jump into the air in an attempt to fly over a fence or the like. i It is thought from. the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent- It is to'be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A chicken boot COIIIPIlSiIlQ a substantially triangular shaped member adapted to extend above and below the knee of a chick- 'ens leg and including converging limbs'and a cross piece, said cross piece connecting the limbsat their upper ends and curved downwardly intermediate its ends to conform to the curvature of the leg above the knee, said limbs having their other ends bent to extend parallel to form relatively spaced attaching portions, and an adjustable band secured to said attaching portions.
2. A chicken boot comprising adapted to be secured to the leg of a chicken above the ankle portion thereof, and a vertically extending and substantially triangular shaped member extending from saidband to a point above the knee portion of the chickens leg and in front of the latter, said member including converging limbs terminating in parallel portions secured to the front face of the band and a cross piece connecting the upper ends of the limbs and fowl, the cross piece of the member-4 will engage the. leg above the knee so that it will be impossible for the fowl to bend the leg at the knee to such an extent as to permit the fowl to assume a setting position or a band I
