My invention relates to means for supporting or suspending various types of signs, including hanging or suspended signs and signs of the type supported or mounted upon a. pedestals or standards. I These signs usually include an enclosing rim or frame for clamping or otherwise embracing a plate or disk constituting the sign proper, and one object of my invention is to provide improved means'for connecting these.

One of the clamping bracket supports will always conceal the connection for the or frame, andthe other may he placed in complemental relation thereto. The clamping brackets may be suspended by straps 9 from yoke members 10 carried by a rod or other similar support 11 such straps having substantially .hoolnshaped ends 9, and the bracket clamping members are provided with matching bosses 12which are engaged by the hooked ends of said straps. 'Thestructure illustrated in Figs. 1 2. et seq., is substantially like that illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, et seq., excepting that the. sign structure is provided with a rectangular frame or rim, and such frame or rim may be supported at the upper corners. In this instance the rim or frame may comprise two pieces, indicated. at 2 and 22, which may be connected together at the points of attachment'ofthe bracket clamping supports 5, and in lieu of welding ears to these portions of the frame or rim,as in the form of structure illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, et seq., I may turn the ends of these pieces in the manner illusv trated at 22 in ig. 2?, and hold the same together by' the usual bolt 4:; It will be understood, of course, that I may weld ears to the members 2 and 22, shown in Figs..1 ,2 et seq., instead of bending the ends of suchportions. r i

In the structure illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, et seq., I have shown another form of clamping bracket support particularly designed for use in connection with pedestal or standard supports-of the post type, such as illustrated in Figs. 1 2", et" seq. I

shown in Fig. 1 is secured to the post or pedestal 15, may comprise sections 20 and 21; the section 20 being illustrated as having a threaded sleeve portion 20 forming a socket whereby it may be mounted on the upper threaded end of said post. It will be understood, of course, that any suitable socket connection into which the upper end of the post may be inserted and to which it may be secured by a bolt or other fastening device, is within the scope of my invention. And, if desired, the section 20 may be provided with an externally threaded end adapted to enter the upper end of the post, which may be internally provided with threads for cooperative engagement therewith. The section 21 is a'matching section, omitting the socket portion 20*, however, and it will overlie the section 20 in the manner illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4; such section 21 being secured to the section 20 by means of bolts 7 which serve to clamp such sections inproper engagement with the flanges of the rim orframe These sections have overlying flanges for the rim or frame as indicated at 6 of a character substantially identical with the flanges of the clamping bracket members shown in Figs. 2 and 4 and their function is the same.
It will be understood that I have provided a simple and eiflcient structure for the purpose described; one that may be assembled and detached with great facility so. as to permit alterations or changes in the sign plates carried thereby. At the same time, the bracket clamping members are of substantial character and form a substantially permanent connection and support.
I claim:
l. The combination with a signplate-enclosing rim or frame, of a pair of matching clamp members each comprising a plate or web having flanges on one side or face in matching relation; certain of said flanges being recessed to provide seats for the edges of the rim and having portions overlying the latter, and means for holding said matching members in clamping engagement with said rim thereby forming a box-like structure over said rim. I
2. The combination with a sigii-plate-enclosing rim or frame and clamping means therefor, of a pair of matching clamp members each comprising a plate or web covering the means clamping said rim and having flanges on one side or face in matching relation; certain of said flanges being recessed to provide seats for the edges of the rim and having portions overlying the latter, and
means for holding said matching members in clamping engagement with said rim thereby forming a box-like structure over said rim.
3. The combination with a. sign-plate-enclosing rim or frame, of a pair of matching clamp members each comprising a plate or 7 ch havingaflanges" on one side or face matching relation; certain of said fiangesbe;

5. The combination, in a sign structure, of
a sign plate, a flanged rimfollowing the perimeterof the same and having a groove receiving the edge of the sign plate, means for clamping said rim to the signplate, supporting means for saidflanged rim comprising a pair of matching clamp members each con sisting of a plate or web having flanges on one side or face in matching relation; said flanges being turned inwardly with respect to said sign plate, and certain of said flanges being recessed to provide seats for the edges of the sign-plate-engaging rim, means for holding said clamp members in clamping engagement with the rim over the meeting ends ofthe same and thereby forming a box thereover, and means for supporting said rim-engaging clanip members. i
6. The combination with a sign plate, of a sign-enclosing frame, clamping means carried thereby for drawing the framearound ion the sign plate and tightly gripping the same,
and an additional clamping member comprising a pair of'web orplate portions with frame-i tting jaws to grip said frame in its sign-clamping position; said frame-fitting clamping jaws forming a box covering the frame clamping means.
