Application illed June 4, 1930. Serial ll'o. 459,243.
This invention relates to a lemon squeezer particularly adapted for use in squeezing the juice from a portion of a lemon into an ice tea glass, and has for its primary object to rovide, in a manner as hereinafter set fort a device of such character by means of which the desired result may be accomplished without the necessity of touching the lemon with the fingers, and without likelihood of any deposit of lemon juice outside of the glass.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for the purpose aforesaid which is of neat and compact construction, and which may be plated in the same manner as 16 ordinary silverware, in order that the device may present an attractive appearance when associated with a glass.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in the accom anying drawings wherein is shown an em odiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawings are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings in which 80 like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a lemon squeezer in accordance with this invention'showing the same' in association with a drinklng 86 glass.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the lemon squeezer shown in a position at a right angle to that shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the .40 lemon squeezer.
Figure 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of Fi re 3.
igure 5 is a section taken on line. 55 of Figure 3. I Referring to the drawings in detail, the
numeral 1 designates a spoon element of concave formation which is adapted to have deposited therein a portion of a lemon, such'as indicated at 2. Formed on the spoon element 1 is a handle 3 which extends substantially handle 3. The projections 11, in connection at a right angle to the spoon element 1 and an upward end portion of which is curved to provide a split loop-4, the extreme end portion of which is bent outwardly and extends at an angle to the plane of the handle 3. The angularly disposed outer end portion of the loop 4 is indicated at 5 and the line of mergence between the same and the loop 4 provides a rounded surface 6 for bearing against the outer face of a glass, such as 7, when the loop 4 is engaged with the rim of the glass with the spoon element 1 disposed within the glass. 1 4
Encircling the handle 3, adjacent the split loop 4, is a loop element 8 of rectangular contour which is formed with or fixedly secured to the rearward face of the handle 3. The loop element 8 projects from the forward face of the handle?) and has slidably extended therethrough the handle 9 of a movable 7o spoon element 10 similar to the spoon element 1. The handles 9 and 3 extend in parallel contacting relation with the spoon element 10 disposed directly over the spoon element 1. Formed integrally with the handle 9, adjacent the spoon element 10, are a pair of lateral projections which are bent to have their outer end portionsextend in contacting parallel relation to the rearward face of the with the handle 9, provide a split loop 12 of rectangular contour which slidably embraces the handle 3.
Toward the free end thereof, the handle 9 merges into a portion 13 which is disposed at an angle of substantially 45 to the handle 9 and which mer es in a horizontally disposed portion 14 ormed witha return portion 15.
In the use of my improved lemon squeezer, the same is preferably positioned with respect to a glass as shownin Figure 1, with the split loo 4 projecting from the opposite side of the lass tothe position of the user of the glass. 11 the operation of the squeezer, the middle fin er of the user is inserted through the spit loop 4, the index finger of the user is positioned between the split loop 4 and horizontal portion 14 of the handle 9, and the thumb of the user is positioned I against the upper face of the portion 14. The
thumb is then pressed toward the fingers which causes-a sllding movement of the handle 9 whereby the spoon 10 is moved toward the spoon 1. The s oons 1 and are provided with spaced s ots 16 in order thatthe juice from the lemon 2 may readily escape from the spoons. Preferably the s oons 1 and 10 are positioned beneath the evelof lo the li uid within the glass in order that there may e no possibility of any of thejuice from the lemon escaping over the upper edge of the glass.
If desired the squeezer may be positioned on the glass with the spoons 1 and 10 located outside of the lass and with the split loop 4 located insi e of the glass. ,When the squeezer is positioned in such a manner,,the
, same is located on the side of the glass next to the user in order to be in proper position for engagement by the fingers and thumb of the user.
Owing to the manner in which the squeezer is grasped by the thumb and fingers of the user, the handle member may be formed of relatively light material without likelihood of bendlng the slidable handle 9, as such handle member is supported during the use of the squeezer by the index finger of the user. The device may be formed of any suitable material customarily used in the con struction of silverware, and may be plated or otherwise finished to conform with other articles of silver with which the same is used.
It is thought that the many advantages of a lemon squeezer in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of the in- ,ivention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes inthe details of construction may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall Within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is: Q
1. A lemon squeezer adapted forv use in connection with a drinking glass and comprising, a pair of relatively movable spoon elements adapted to have a portion of lemon' placed therebetween, a pair of handle mem bers for the spoon elements extending in parallel relation, and means for slidably con.-

3. A lemons ueezer comprism'g, a pair of "relatively mova le spoon elements adapted to have a portion of lemon placed therebetween, and a air of relatively thin handle members for the spoon elements, said handle members extending in parallel relation and each having a relatively wide loop slidably embracing the other.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto. 1
- ADOLPH A. POCHYLA.
