My invention relates to tin cans used for the packing of chemicals, cleaning and polishing preparations and the like. The tins most commonly used are those of which the lid ma be removed with the aid of a penny and whicharc provided with a collar projecting towards the middle of the box.
Now these tin boxes have amongst other inconveniences that of having an opening of small diameter, and a sharp projecting portion so that there is a certain difiiculty and some danger in completely emptying the box. On the other hand when the tin is closed the lid is driven inside the box and consequently 75 a large portion of the interior is rendered useless. Lastly, when the tins are piled up there is no connection between them so that packing or exhibition in a show window is dlflicult.
Other kinds of tin cans having a nonpro- 'ecting collar are also utilized said collar eing secured very close to the body of the can or in contact with same. This type of collar does not lend any rigidity to the top of the body and consequently the slightest blow upon the packing crushes it, the lid falls out and the contents empties itself upon the other tins.
My invention has for 1ts object a clos1ng system with collar and lid WlllCll obvlates to said defects.
The collar of the container according to my invention presents a narrow horizontal flange slightly lower than the upper edge of the container, then a relatively high vertical turned up wall which rises above the container, a vertical descending wall connected to the former by a rounded portion and lastly a turned-in upright rolled edge which meets the upri ht wall of the collar and Wlll bear upon it w en the container is closed.
The lid has a convex bottom surface adjoining a conical portion followed by a cylindrical vertical wall of a diameter slightly larger than that of the descending portion of the collar, said wall being connected through a rounded portion with a slightly descending wide horizontal flange ending in a small rolled edge.
When closing the tin, the inner rolled edge right or to the left raises of the collar and the convex bottom surface of the lid act as in the manner of a spring the conical part facilitating the introduction. The cylindrical portion of the lid is forced in that of the collar thus producing-the necesl5, sary adherence to obtain a perfectly air tight closure. I
On the other hand, the rounded part which connects the cylindrical wall of the lid with its horizontal edge which has the same radius as the one that connects the upright wall of the collar with its turned down wall engages the latter thus ensuring a perfectly air tight closure, The convex bottom surface of the lid gives an advantageous appearance to the container the inner capacity of which is completely utilized.
The slightly turned down horizontal portion of the lid which is rigidified by its rolled edge provides a strong support for the opening. My invention comprises an opening lever rovided with an lnverted U-shaped head p aced astride upon the container-flange beforethe closing operation, in such a manner, that the inclination of the lever to the the lid by the v back of the U.
Lastly, the projecting portion of the container constituted by the collar and the lid has a diameter which allows its engagement in the recessed portion of the container between its bottom surface and its lower flange, thus allowing the piled up cans to engage one upon the other and facilitating packing or exhibition in show windows.
The annexed drawings show by way of example a mode of execution of my invention.
