This invention relates to kan appliance for picking cotton and the like and the. principal object thereof is to provide a suction noz-v zle that can be directedtoward the ripecotf ton or ripe unopened bolls with means connected with the nozzle for catching the product and drawing it into the nozzle so that suction will carry it on to a receiver. To that end I provide a nozzle having a suction operated turbine arranged adj acentits inlet end with means connected to the turbine for actuating a pair of rollers connected to a fixed and movable jaw on the nozzles that are driven to catch the cotton and draw it into the nozzle as stated.
Features of invention are shown in the construction, combination and' arrangement of parts whereby a nozzle is provided that is especially adapted to pick cotton that tena- Vciouslyclings to the cotton bolls or to gather o'cotton that ordinary suction will not dislodge rom the bolls and also to pick'and crush the ripe unopened cotton bolls.
Other objects, advantages and features of ing drawings, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention, in which: I

The turbineis constructedso that when suctionis established inthe nozzleby the apa paratus 13 the` air will passthroughthe ports 311m the; cage ,V27 and through thevanes 32V 1Go' u with considerable zforce."Vhenjthe rollers Y to-drive theiturbine wheel 26 and thereby drive the roller 17 which'in turn drives the, Y roller 19 so that when the nozzle is extended `movable jaw 19 so that. when it-is openvair to within reachk of the cotton or the'ripe cotton bolls therollers pickthe cotton and deliver it into the v'nozzle -where the suction move-d air' passingrom the turbineinto? the nozzle through the opening- 33 in the-side-of the Vhead .15- carries the. cotton through,.the pipe'lll'to the apparatus 18.
Guides 34 are arranged on each sideo' the I will not be drawn intothenozzle from the sides of the aw. 'However, -itzlis understood that there is considerable'suction between the rollers when they larevseparatedby -cottonor the "ripened l bolls, fand `this suction' aids the rollers in drawing" the product"r into'1 the* noz-f zle. This suction, however, is not sufficient l to'etfect the actuation' off the turbineto drive therollersp,y Y.
